With all the various flotsam and jetsam (plumbing pipe, curtain rods, etc.) I was just wondering if anybody ever heard of someone making a whistle out of old golf club shafts. I bet that thin-walled steel seamless tubing of that high a quality would have a wicked good sound. The tubing would have a taper to it like Clarke whistles too. Old broken golf clubs and discarded shafts are a dime a dozen too. It seems like a natural. I’m sure if I thought of it though that someone else already has too. I’ve never heard of it so it must suck! Heh heh heh
Old golf clubs might be a bit narrow. The smallest diameter material that I use is 1/2" (1.25mm). Larger diameter material seems easier (at least for me) to voice.
Well, I don’t know if you’ve ever see a golf club shaft underneath the grip. It’s pretty wide there. Yeah, the shaft tapers so fast that it gets pretty small pretty fast. The first 12"-15" or so would be the only reasonably sized tubing there. I do think however that the tubing right under the grip is at least as big around as my Clarke D whistle however. I wish somebody would try it. I bet the ultra-thin-walled steel tubing would produce a very “crisp” sound–even more so than copper or brass. I would try it if I knew what I was doing. Hah hah hah!
Mack Hoover has made some from some from ski poles. And there are several that have made flute walking sticks. I have made bamboo walking stick whistles.
