Poem: "Estrus"

My poem, “Estrus”:

I like the poem.

It has the feel of truth.

By the way, just because your poem reminded me of it, if a female ferret goes into heat and doesn’t find a mate, she’ll die.

–James

Stupid Bob Young.

Spayed and neutered should take care of it.

By the way, just because your poem reminded me of it, if a female ferret goes into heat and doesn’t find a mate, she’ll die.

:boggle: :open_mouth: I did not know that.

Fact #14 under “301 useless facts…” thread by Jack.

Mmmm…

I don’t hear anybody turning over in their grave…

Bit iffy though…very dodgy.

You can do better..and have done.

Neil Youngs unplugged album has a very similar tale…

Slan,
D. :poke:

It’s a good thing you’re there for them, the poor dears.

djm

Wow.

None of the ‘Unplugged’ lyrics I looked at have anything to do with a ferret, BTW. :open_mouth:

Well, our ferrets are sterile and don’t have this issue…this only applies to ferrets who are not “fixed.”

At any rate, if a female ferret does go into heat, there’s nothing a human can do that will help, she will eventually die of aplastic anemia if not bred.

–James

P.S. I started to note that you seem to have some odd ideas, then realized there’s no particular reason you would know any of this if you don’t have ferrets. It almost sounded like you were suggesting that I myself should breed the ferret. :boggle:

True..

Apologies abound around..

But I am in the right field, so to speak.

It was a dog though..Emmy Lou was involved..

Now there’s a thought…

I’ll find it..eventually…

Did I ever tell ye about the time I spent a few weeks writing one of the worlds finest reels?

A mighty tune it was..and still is.

So down in the session one night I announced my work and gave it a mighty lash.

Halfway through the second time round for the first part the rest of them got ready and every single one of them came in on the second part like they knew it all their lives..they did.

It was a few months after that I kinda remembered where I heard it first…

Neil Young and Ferrets…lovely.

Slan,
D.

Well. Uh. Ok. It’s actually just an announcement, but constructive criticism is always welcome. Like “bit iffy…very dodgy.” I will make a note not to write any more iffy or dodgy poems.

It’s not the iffyness and dodginess that I found disappointing but the fact that it made me think so much of Neill Young - No bad thing.

The theme of the Dog is universal and heartbreaking to anybody who has ever loved a dog..along with a Mother.

I suppose that RHP as my little brain thinking in short and sweet terms.

I admire your work on many levels but …not my favourite.

Slan,
D.

Sorry about that whole reminding-you-of-Neil-Young thing.

“Old King” by Neil Young

King went a-runnin’ after deer
Wasn’t scared of jumpin’
off the truck in high gear
King went a-sniffin’
and he would go
Was the best old hound dog
I ever did know.

I had a dog and his name was King
I told the dog about everything
There in my truck the dog and I
Then one day the King up and died.

Then I thought about
the times we had
Once when I kicked him
when he was bad
Old King sure meant a lot to me
But that hound dog is history.

King went a-runnin’ after deer
Wasn’t scared of jumpin’
off the truck in high gear
King went a-sniffin’
and he would go
Was the best old hound dog
I ever did know.

That old King was a friend of mine
Never knew a dog
that was half as fine
I may find one, you never do know
'Cause I still got a long way to go.

I had a dog and his name was King
I told the dog about everything
Old King sure meant a lot to me
But that hound dog is history.

King went a-howlin’ after deer
Wasn’t scared of jumpin’
off the truck in high gear
King went a-sniffin’
and he would go
Was the best old hound dog
I ever did know.

That’s the one..thank you.

Don’t ye see the similaritys?..

I am being honest here…

Slan,
D.

Oh, let others judge. Personally, I thought my poem was pretty darn close to The Chiffons’ “He’s So Fine.”

Touche…

That’s the trouble though..it is so hard to be original when you are bombarded with information every day.
I think it was Whitman who said, when asked about his influences, said -give or take-..everything I see, touch, taste, smell and hear is an influence.

that’s what makes it interesting…if somewhat odd.

Slan,
D.

I’ll be stopping now.

In this part of Merrie England that would mean I am staying here now.

Lovely little play on words…

D.
