Play Along CDs?

So, are there any play along CDs available of simple tunes or do I just try to play along with whatever? I’m not really talking about backing tracks, but just some simple, easy music in D that I could play along with.

I was listening to a youtube song that I knew and picked my whistle up and tried to play along. It was insanely fun! I’d love to have a whole bunch of music like that - on CDs so I am not tied to my computer!

Any thoughts?

Well, they are all play-along CD’s. Aren’t they?

Here’s a good resource. The archives go back a long way and there are lots of tunes. That’s just one example of many others you can find on the Web.

Thank you for the link. I’ll go check it out!

There’s more than one cache of good tunes on the web. Comhaltas has a nice bunch of tunes in various formats too. You might have to listen/look through a number until you find something you are comfortable with but it never does any harm to listen to good music played by good players along the way.

Isn’t the Internet just a wonderful thing?

Something that also might help is downloading the Slowdowner or Best Practice software, that allows you to slow a tune down, and adjust the pitch to your whistle or flute (or other musical endeavor) when playing along. Slowdowner costs, but Best Practice is free, the last time I checked.

After a while, you will be able to play along without using these, but it still helps break down a tune to learn it easier, especially on fast tunes. I’m not a fan of fast tunes, just slow expressive ones. But to each their own, and these programs can help learn either or both preferences.

Yes, the Internet is indeed a wonderful thing! Thanks again!

Thanks. I just found Best Practices from that sight Feadoggie posted. I’ll give it a try.

I, too, like the slower ones. But I am probably going to need to slow them down, too, to learn them!

In that case, don’t forget this!
