From this article on ukeleles:
LINK
comes this quote:
“Too often, folks who discover the seductive charms of the ukulele fall prey to a horrid affliction known as UAS, or Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome, and I stand before you today stricken with this unfortunate illness. Early signs of UAS usually include loss of common sense and self-control, always accompanied by an irresistible urge to own as many ukuleles as possible, basically the worst kind of collector¹s obsession.”
Thanks to Michel Vachon for letting me know about this.

UAS, as an acronym, completely lacks the panache of WhOA. I say, let 'im have it.
I agree, when you see any of them you can say “Hey! U Ass!”

Various guitar forums and newsgroups call it Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). The uke players probably stole the name from them and modified it.
