I’m going up to Portland,OR next week to hunt for a house, anticipating a 2-3 week stay. I’m staying in a B&B on this trip so I probably won’t bring my pipes, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any opportunities to hear some piping. Brad Angus told me months ago that there was some talk of trying to revive the Portland Pipers’ club. Any word on that? Thanks.

Welcome to Portland! Eastburn 1800 Burnside. They have traditional irish on Wednesday nights with pipers. Last time I was there Brad showed up with some other pipers. There are other places that also do trad irish but I am not sure about pipers.
Brad also mentioned the talk about forming a group but that is all that I have heard. I would join if there was one.
Kells Pub downtown on 2nd and Burnside has an Irish session on Sunday 6-9pm. Piper’s are seen there too!
I’d join a Portland Piper’s club in a heartbeat.
Portland Irish Pipers’ Club on Facebook. Preston Howard “revived” it. I keep reminding these guys that I’m still President For Life of the PPC.
We used to get together around the beginning of this century, mostly it was Brad cranking out a reed or two, me explaining how to wrap thread around tenons, maybe a bit of music. The current club agenda is to eat greasy dive bar food.
We’ll see what happens. We talked about having an event of some kind, mini-tionol.
I was at Kell’s last night - with the banjo I mentioned in another post. Portland’s a fiddle happy town, no end of piping unfriendly music. Sometimes Preston or Channing show up at Kells, or at the Muddy Rudder in Sellwood. That’s at a bit more advanced skill level though, FYI. Kell’s is more anything goes. Ruddy Mudder and Kell’s are both on Sunday, 3 and 7 PM respectively. There’s another piper in town, Bruce, who lives in the Carolinas but comes out here for seasonal work. Bumped into him at Kell’s last month.
Preston and Pals play at the Eastburn - that’s a concert, not a session. Preston lives down the street from there.
So…how are the mutton chops?
