Does Vegas still have that hotel set up like Star Trek? :boggle:

Yes, it’s the Hilton. I was there last month. Should be there for a long time, since they’re planning a sequel (Borg Invasion).

Jeez, what a geek i am! Sorry folks, move along. Nothing to see here… i’ll go practice a couple hours in the basement now.

At the height of Flatleymania

I was offered $400 a week to play in a Riverdance copycat band in Reno. This by people who hadn’t heard me play before, of course.

But my reputation as a piper who ROCKED had apparently gotten around!

I told them to call John Peter-Presson

, which wasn’t very tactful I suppose…

Ha, see you all at the auditions. I’m learning to hit the regs with my left foot, ordered a purple chanter, and changed my bag to look like a gargoyle at Notre Dame Cathedral.

Who’s to say this gig isn’t with the new “Zoomanity” show, where you are likely to be performing in the buff? Could be rough going, given the point of focus when most people watch a piper playing . . . :astonished:

Somehow, I can’t picture Kevin playing at Reno, in his thong…or the possiblility of him getting his chanters mixed up while on stage.

I’d be more concerned with where I plugged my bellows into. :boggle:

Maybe there’d be this midair suspension thingy where the piper twirls around…sort a Wurlitzer tremolo effect. That’d work.

When I was down in Vegas a month or so ago, I noticed they’re still doing a Riverdance show at the Venitian (I think it was there anyway). They had some of the dancers from the show on the morning news doing some “dance for charity” thing. Anyway, they must have an u. piperfor that show…I wonder if he/she could moonlight.

From what i heard, the Riverdance they’re doing in Vegas now is all recorded. Even the people who seem to be playing are just acting. Hmmm that’s an UP gig that i could handle!

who wants to play the same thing day in day out, same tunes same people for what is two years.i dont care if it was a million a year? you would crack up

And don’t forget the reed dramas you would be subjected to in the desert, not to mention that theatrical composers and musical directors have virtually no clue whatsoever about pipes and their limitations. An uphill battle only for someone who a) needs the money b) has sufficient adaptability, musical skills, and social skills (“tact” I think it’s called - that rules me out I’m blunt as the front end of a Mack Truck!) and c) is up to the task of maintaining a set of pipes and making reeds as needed in the desert - which will be no mean feat I promise you. Not many full-time pros would be willing to do that unle$$ the price wa$ right$$$$$$. :smiling_imp:

Keenan played in Vegas last summer for a couple of weeks. I’ve been wanting to ask him how the reeds worked. If anyone gets a chance to talk to him, ask him how it was, and let us know.
