pimped my flute

Hi all,

just recieved my cosmetically enhanced flute back from George Ormiston,
I had the silver lip plate/band added a while back, and when I had played it for a good few weeks and travelled with it on my last two European jobs, I realised that I had found the right flute, I am still after a good boehm as I love the sound of them also but the Ormy is a fantastic, I just had the stopper re-done and mounted with the silver end cap, if you ever get the chance to see and play one of Georges flutes you will see what I mean when I say his are the most beautifully crafted instruments I have seen, all Georges silver work is very precise and fully hallmarked, I didnt go with the engraved fittings as this would have looked odd with the standard bands on the rest of the flute, I find a medium focused embouchure gives me a nice clear loud tone and it will bark, honk and do pretty much what I have been striving for in a flute, the bottom D is easy to get and its a real strong one, the upper octave notes are sweet, Its difficult to say if this is the best of all the flutes I have played, as I dont really think I gave the others a good chance, but this one certainly makes me want to play when ever I get a spare moment, I have even turned down the odd half days photography to get some practice in, at least now I can start seriously enjoying the flute and give up the spare time job of perpetual flute buyer. some pics below

Hey Mark,

You’ve really got some bling going there! Just watch out for playing it on bright sunny days, and you’ll be fine!

Great to hear you’ve found a flute you love, and it makes you want to pick it up and play. That’s really what it’s about, after all the shopping-hope I get there soon too!

Now have fun, and enjoy!

It’s eye candy, for sure, but to agree with Barry, it’s great to hear that you’ve found inspiration, congratulations!

To borrow from Star Wars, may the tune be with you!

That’s a good one, Cork

Very nice flute. I have never seen an Ormiston but would love to try one.

That fulte is classy.

Looks like he’s modeling a vintage Metzler.

Here is mine.

There indeed are similarities.
