Phosphor bronze regulator reeds

I recently found out about phosphor bronze regulator reeds.
From what I have read, they seem to be very promising. Do you have any experience with this type of reed in your pipes? Also, is there any attainable information available on how to make them?

There is an article in The Pipers Review, written by David Quinn, Summer 2000 Vol. XIX No. 3 - 29 pages

I live in a land where no reed is “bullet proof”, and that goes for pB reeds. Still, they seem to shift less than cane. But they are not really adjustable like cane. Still, they’re easier to produce (in my experience anyway). I do worry about taking in bronze dust when you get to the crowing stage. Seems like a good going over with compressed air would be wise.

Thanks for the replies. Is the article by David Quinn available online?

I don’t think so. You have to subscribe to Cumann na bPíobairí to gain access: http://irishpipersclub.org

Those magazines are digitized and hosted on the uilleannforum.

Great reading.

Great reading indeed; the archive is a real treasure-trove.

But last I heard, the uilleannforum.com guys won’t give you access to it unless you’re a member of the Seattle Pipers Club (i.e., a subscriber to “Cumann…”). Guest access, or an ordinary (non-access-granted) forum logon, won’t work. If you’re a SPC member and have an uilleannforum account, all you have to do is PM one of the moderators.
