Hello Everyone!
I am new to this board and just starting out with my first flute. I recieved a small bamboo pentatonic flute and would welcome any advice. I am totally new at this - I can’t read music (yet). Any suggestions on tabs to get me started? I’d like to learn one tune to get me started and used to playing my new flute. I’ve seen tabs for some popular tunes but all of them are for the 6 hole flutes. Could I find tabs and learn to play Amazing Grace or Greensleeves?
Thank you!

You should have no trouble figuring out Amazing Grace by ear.
That is the first song I learned on whistle and Native American flute, which is also five hole pentatonic.
It will be the first of many tunes for you. I’m sure.
Good luck.
Mike
You’ll find very little tab for a pentatonic flute. The usual idea is that you improvise or play these things by ear.
This type of instrument has the advantage that it’s hard to go wrong with this scale - there aren’t really dissonant pairs of notes in the scale. It’s got the disadvantage that lots of common melodies or songs are not written in a pentatonic scale - but many are!
If you can find an intro instruction book for the Native American flute, you might get some good ideas on how to play yours.
Hey Stefpat where did you get that info. Is it off of a web site? I have a 6 hole transverse flute in D that I think is a native american tuning. It has a wounderful sound and there sure is not a bad note in it but I know nothing about native american flutes. I sure would like to learn more about them.
