Paul Busman starting new career!!!

It has come to my attention that Paul .. the whistleman… is starting a new career .. that of clock maker. He has recently taken a normal working Grandfather clock .. and converted it to play Irish tunes on the quarter hours instead of chimes. He has incorporated a complete set of whistles to sound the notes .. driving them with a bellows. He is truly a very innovative person!

This is truth as I know it .. so help me Bill Clinton.

Jim

You call this a career?

Actually, Jim asked me for some whistlemaking advice and when I asked him about his lathe he told me he is a clockmaker and that his lathe was too small for whistle work. I asked Jim if I could pick his brains about a grandfather clock of ours that wasn’t running, and he’s been very kind to work long distance to get it running again. Even called me yesterday and listened to the clock over the phone! We’re getting there…
(PS-- brewer is my former, pre-whistle hobby. Busman is my name. Everyone thinks this, to the point that it might be easier to change my name!)

OK guys how do I keep a click spring from popping out of the 2 little holes? Is there some place I can order click springs or do I have to continue making my own?

Ron

There you go .. messing up a good story!

Jim

I used to brew beer, mead, and other fermentables (like Maple wine) myself.

I was (more than 10 years ago) a somewhat respected author of beer reviews in a very active beer brewing and consuming community (rec.food.drink.beer). Yes, people do review beer, and sometimes are respected for it. And beer consumption is not altogether disreputable. But thinking about it, I never put these credentials in a resume.

You’ve faced the challenge - and felt the force Luke - of balancing hop bitterness, malt sweetness, alcohol heat, and flavor. You were well prepared to balance the playing characteristics of a finished whistle. :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps you should change your name to “Master Luke Brewer.”

Hey! I found an ancient beer review page in my archives and posted it at http://members.cox.net/tofutaco/beer/ for fun.

You know, Paul, I’ve had that problem myself, to the point that I want to ask for Brewer Whistles!
