*I’ve already got my ticket for this show!

Am hoping to get to St Ives, though it’s a long way from Bude! I saw them in Exeter in 1987 just after their first album came out and again in Exeter, about six or seven years ago, at one of the concerts in which they were recording their live CD. They sound every bit as good live as they do on CD but with that added “live” edge.

Steve

Beth and I have got tickets for the Hammermith concert!

Ordered my tickets yesterday for Friday 9th Sept Guildhall,Marketplace, Derby. A fairly small venue but only 28 tickets left. We have managed to get front row seats. I am not as familiar with Patrick Street as I should be but love Andy Irvine (not like that!) A little review as a taster prior to the 9th would be great…

Rub it in. :sniffle:

I love their music and will never get to hear it live and in person.

Cowtime, you may be able to see them next year. I’ve come across a couple references to them playing in the U.S. next year, end of February-beginning of March, but no cities and dates yet. Ged Foley’s website mentions it.

Hi mikk

You would have loved the gig he played at Fiddler’s Green festival in Rostrevor. Andy and Donal Lunny duetting for the first hour, then the full band (Mozaik) for the next hour and a quarter. Completely acoustic and in a venue that held about 50 max, fan b***y tastic stuff. They were sparking off each other and the craic was marvellous (sorry cowtime this must be really rubbing it in).

David

Wow, that would be wonderful.
Though I am not close to any metropolitan areas, once in a while Bristol gets some really great musicians. That’s where I got to see the Tannahill Weavers several years ago, so I can always hope.

The Fiddlers Green gig sound amazing. The “sparking off” you mention is very evident on the “Live at the Powehouse” CD. I was in Ireland 23rd - 27th July and went to Kinnitty Castle Co Offlay so was well miffed when we saw the posters in Kinnitty advertising the festival on 31st. I really wanted to change my flights and stay on for the weekend but it was too expensive - I love Mozaik I have met Bruce Molsky as he stayed at my friends house last Sept when he did a fiddle workshop and then played the Robin Hood Folk Club.Notts. I think we are meeting him again later thisyear and walking in Derbyshire before his Buxton gig.

I was looking at the Wallingford Bunkfest site (considering going next weekend) and noticed that Patrick Street are NOT appearing:-

Patrick Street replaced by Craobh Rua
for Saturday night concert
Due to circumstances beyond our control Patrick Street are now unable to play the Saturday night concert. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and will make every effort to book them for 2006.

Looking forward to the 9th Sept…

I think Andy Irvine singing “Carrowclare” is one of the most beautifully-sung songs I have ever heard.

Saw the Hammersmith Concert last night.

I enjoyed the performance, though they did too many songs for my taste, which prevented me buying any of their CDs on my way out (and there were plenty to choose from). Their playing was very tight, clean and masterful, but didn’t generate (in me) the excitement I felt hearing Lunasa, Danu, Liz Doherty or Flook for the first time. Jackie Daly looked like he was going to fall asleep behind his box.

The first concert of a new tour probably isn’t representative, as they’re still shaking down, and it’s always harder for me to enjoy a concert on a Friday evening after a tough week, and in a smoky atmosphere, so I would say they’re well worth seeing. It didn’t help that the sound balance wasn’t right for the first two sets, so that Daly could hardly be heard, and it’s not often the accordion gets drowned out.

I think by the time they reach Durham the’ll be cooking on all cylinders!

Thanks for your review,Martin.
I’ll do the same for the Durham show on Tuesday-it should be interesting to compare the gigs on the tour, though obviously subjective.

Well,I went to see ‘Patrick Street’ last night-and it was pure ITM Bliss!
The sound quality was good throughout the concert, though for the first half,I thought that Jacky Daly was a little lost in the general band sound-though this was put right for the highlight of the gig for me-a set of Sliabh Lauchra slides, followed by ‘The Newmarket Polkas’,where Jacky very much came into his own!!
I was pleased to see that John Carty had brought his Banjo along (he even played a keyless Flute on one song).
Andy Ervine seemed in better fettle than on the ‘Planxty live’DVD.Kevin Burke played brilliantly(as expected!). Ged Foley had a pleasant, strong singing voice too.
I couldn’t fault the musicians’ performance,my foot tapped all night!-a friend summed up the night as 'Musical quality’and I couldn’t agree with him more.
A marvelous night’s entertainment!

Thanks for reviews. Looking foward to Fridays gig in Derby. Do they do “My Hearts Tonight in Ireland” Andy Irvine’s song about his time with Sweeny’s Men?
