I really really like the track on Chieftans 3 of Pat Kilduff lilting with Paddy Mercier on bodhran, and was wondering if anyone knew of any albums of his or any recordings he’s on? Even home recordings would be great, anything.
Also, where else can I hear good lilting? I’ve gotten a CD called “Celtic Mouth Music” which has some interesting stuff… Seamus Ennis singing a rad version of The Frost is All Over (the same way that Planxty did it.) I would really appreciate finding out where to hear more.

That’s the only collection I know of dedicated to lilting. Other examples are sporadically included on other albums, especially of older players. If you’re looking for more examples you may have to purchase lots of other albums. Here’s two places you should check out for Irish singing:

I don’t think you’ve lived until you’ve heard Robbie McMahon lilt the Mason’s Apron 
Mike Harding ,presenter of Folk Music programs on BBC Radio 2 once played an Asian form of lilting and then segued into Robbies version of the Masons Apron.

you could find some lillting stuff on matt molloy’s shadow on stone album( garrett barry, paddy raferty’s favourite set ,lilting with b flat flute, great!),desi willkinson first album ( first track), on cran first album ,mike and mary rafferty album( old fireside music..)…
but, on these albums is only one or two lillting tracks.

I know next to nothing about lilting, but I bought a compilation album a few years ago called “Treasure of my Heart.” Track 27 is two tunes called Willie Clarke’s and Green Grow the Rushes-O, and they’re lilted by Joe Holmes and Len Graham. It was recorded in 1979. It’s an absolute treat.

Check out Cathal McConnell’s Long Expectant Comes At Last track 8, “The Hurricane Of Reels”. It’s a shame you can’t listen to it unless you have the CD.
And there’s Seamus Fay’s CD, Cavan’s Lilter that was released not long ago, 30 over tracks of lilting and some sean nos.

Peter, I’m not familiar with Robbie McMahon. He doesn’t seem to have any albums I can find on the net. Is he with a group, or is he another one of these people you quote who’ve never recorded?

Robbie McMahon is a singer from Spancil Hill Co Clare.
He has a tape out. possibly it has the Mason’s Apron on it, I don’t know. they have it in Custy’s.
