Parental Advisory: ITM and hiphop

I kno’ fo sho’ s’ma tha younger dogs ‘n’ cats roun’ hurr cannuat get enuffa hiphop, so if you godda minute to spend wit me, if so accomp’ny me like a grizzly, ya know, beah wit me.

Awright dawgs; I’m sorta hooked on the fusion (Fused, anyone? :smiley:) of ITM and hiphop, and I finally realised that was exactly the kind of sound I have been looking for. This I realised after having listened to a Fused album. I believe this holds, or began to appear so, true also for a limited number among you here in this board. But think about a rap game on a slipjig rhythm (“What the…!?”), or maybe you can’t just stand a hiphop-flavoured ITM (“I’m pure sick of it”). I used to think the fusion would never be possible. But here it is, Fused, and undoubtedly it’s one-of-a-kind. Many will follow him but, as is often the case with any music industry, fakers will die hard; many will not follow him and yet die, because their love for the good-ole-days prevents further Evolution (oops, Evolution already took place in Christ and is taking place in His Church and the process will be complete when He returns..but well hey, I guess this be OT), or, a chance to receive a broader mind. Well, I do believe that it’s still possible for some of us to cap the butts of some politics-toasted chickens by attempting the following;

a) Get the track “Shake yo tailfeather” in Bad Boy II album

Stuck it in the synth, tune down to Dm whilst retaining bpm.
Arrange the volumes of the voice to your taste.

b) Get a descent, edge-cutting instrument exc. rec***der.

c) Play “Stay and Have Another One” in Dm7.
D F G Gb A C D
It this sound extreme, just replace F for F#, C for C#
c.f. Declan Masterson “Fairwater”

“A rap on jig rhythm? Please.”
That was my stance for a couple of months until, again, I heard Fused . actually 6/8 can be dubbed with 8/8 in the hands of a good Dj, thus twisting the stueck for a descent backtrack. Have to ask D Shaw and a friend of mine who can rap, and see what happens.

OK, I’m outta here. Peace out!

Huh?

Tak, wut u tokin, homey?

Puts a whole new spin on “gettin’ jiggy wid it”, that’s for sure!

Oy gewalt…

Nice one, PatC.

Hmm…bit of a headscratcher of an e-mail there, Tak.

But don’t let any of us bastards get you down, feel free to mix tunes and hip-hop to your heart’s content.

I don’t know about your choice in rappers though…I personally would go for something earlier, like Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, or maybe Mantronix…better for step/break dancing.

I like “Fused” but, sadly, even in the two years I’ve owned it, it’s aged considerably.

Mmm, yes. Like other so many other briefly “innovative” albums, the pungent stench of aged limburger really clings to this one.

I recently had a listen to Andy Irvine & Davy Spillane’s “East Wind” for the first time in years. PHWHOAH!!! Bad batch…

Interesting, though, isn’t it? I loved East Wind and now it just gathers dust. Part of that is that there are some musicians around here who play several Hungarian/Rumanian/Balkan stringed instruments with names I can neither pronounce nor remember, and it is so much nicer pure and unfused.

Seems to be true in other areas, too, where people have tried this cross-over stuff. Like Jacques Loussier (sp?). Still bearable as elevator music but it sounds so dated and can’t be taken seriously either as Jazz or as Bach. Or, for a good laugh, go back and listen to one of Jon Lord’s orchestral suites (remember, the keyboarder from Deep Purple)… Oh, the times we’ve had.

Tak, I’d like to hear what you’re up to with these mixes. Is there any way you can post this stuff?

Re “Fused,” the M. McG. album (which isn’t what Tak was talking about) – yes, it hasn’t aged well, but I still think the funked-up setting of “The Ash Plant” on flute and harmon-muted trumpet is one of the cooler things I’ve heard.

Just listened again to the bonus track. Good beats, good flow. Makes me think he’d sound brilliant on Bad Boy Reel as I’ve described.

Anyway, Talbert, do you ever listen to Nelly stuff? I was thinking you could do what he can’t do on a whistle! Lovers of southern hiphop AND Irish contemporary-traditional music would surely love it.
