A friend of mine is a Teacher in a school in Manchester. She is teaching a boy who comes from Iraq. He has had a lot of trouble with his immigration status, which has been established now. His younger sister is still in Iraq, and his parents are dead. If she is alive, she is likely to be in an orphanage in Iraq, and probably in Kirkuk. My friend is prepared to contact as many orphanages as she can in order to find this girl.
So the question is, where can I find a directory of orphanages in Iraq? Even just Kirkuk would do. They don’t need to be on the internet. We can contact them by real mail and telephone if that is what it takes.
We do have a new Chiffboard member, an officer who is currently stationed in Iraq. I can’t speak for him, obviously. But you might try contacting him by PM or mail. Perhaps he can put you in touch with someone who can help.
We found out that there is an organisation with an office in London, called Aegis. We are also hoping to link up with a personal friend who was involved in relief efforts.

I’m sure she knows this already, but she needs to be liasising with his social workers/foster carers as well as her head teacher or at the person responsible for child protection in her school before getting herself involved…

She has been a teacher and a political activist for some time and assisted in the (very vexed) processes involved in the immigration status, yes, I think she’s aware of it. I’m involved mostly because their internet connection is intermittent at present but they are due to have their connection looked at this week.
