Comment generator and a question:
I have a CD which has a “version” of Paddy O’Rafferty on it that I like. I say “version” because there are a number of tunes with that name (and I am finding out there are a number of name variations), none of which is close. The version I have seems to be made up of parts of various versions. Understanding full well that Trad Celtic has its roots in NO sheet musice, I can appreciate the variations, but this the 20th Century, the age of the Internet. If I heard the tune in a pub, and wanted to play it, I would have to memorize the tune if I liked that version. If someone said, lets learn “Paddy O’Rafferty”, there is a strong likelihood, unless we practiced together, we would be learning 2 separate tunes! It seems that the only way to learn some music is to just plain listen, and sometimes forget about any written documentation.
RE: the girl from Ipanema
This is more of a legal issue in general. If I posted the notes in that are played (not ABC notation which has key, beat, etc) in the proper sequence for this tune, is that somehow a copyright infringement?
