Moloney tends to imitate a cell phone on his whistle in the final number in most concerts, during the really long solo. (I’ve seen it on the Down the Old Plank Road DVD during Derek Bell’s solo, and understandably, during Matt Molloy’s when I saw them in Baltimore, MD a few months ago.) Does anyone have the fingering or ABC-age for it or anything? I just thought it was incredibly funny and random, and if you think I’m supporting Moloney, I’m not. Mr. Moloney actually showed me that trick when I interviewed him. The fingering he used was:
x o x x o o and you open and close the top hole as fast as you can. When I do it, I use my right index finger for the top button because I can move it faster.
