I wonder if Paddy Moloney ever reads this web site? Wouldn’t it be great to hear about how he adjusted his reed moveing from one place to the next. I’d also would like him to rate the UP’s 1 thru 10 and select the best pipes for the money, stuff like that. I personally think the best pipe makers are now, and years from now their pipes (prices) will be out of sight. Paddy are you out there?
As much as many of us would enjoy the chance to chat with Paddy here, I don’t think we should hold our breath. It’s not at all because he’s another Davy Spillane and too good for the likes of us, but rather that he’s SO STINKIN’ BUSY! The rare free time he does have I imagine he wants to spend with his family and all.
As I understand it, Paddy doesn’t adjust his reeds himself much at all. He’s of a caliber of piper though that can make even a mediocre stick and turn it into a world class sound. As has been mentioned here before, Paddy is currently playing a Seth Gallagher D full set in ebony and brass. He’s quite taken with their sound, but has had a few issues recently with the reeds settling in (or out!).
I’m sure he’ll have it worked out before too long though.
Anyway, just my Paddy prediction.
