There’s always been a load of statues in Dublin, Bud.
The Phil Lynnott (sp?) was brought in to it about a week before We got there..nice though, is it not?
On the left, out of shot, is McDaids…which has been done up and then down back to it’s traditional state…but it just ain’t the same as it was back in the day when Behan and Kavanagh drank there…
Commerce and Tourism can be a right pain in the soul…not to mention the Heart.

I don’t think that there is, as of yet, a statue of Random.

They have loads of statues there, Cran, but there’s not much random about them. They are mostly of people who have passed into artistic or political legend.
A few I’ve seen when I’ve been there…
In O’Connell Street there are Daniel O’Connell, Parnell, James Larkin and others I don’t recall. James Joyce is by a corner just off O’Connell Street near the new(ish) spire.
Other spots have Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Wolfe Tone, Grattan, James Connolly, Molly Malone, Oscar Wilde.
My wife is a fan of Kavanagh. He was a poet, and the chap who wrote ‘Raglan Road’, probably best known as a Luke Kelly/Dubs record.
Many of the statues have nicknames (most of which I don’t know). The one of Kavanagh near the canal is sometimes called ’ The Crank by the Bank’ or something like that…

It would take a man a long time to photograph every statue in and around Dublin.They are everywhere.Every time I go home there is another one to check out.

I think the main reason the Philo statue was erected there was because of Bruxelles pub (just on the right of the picture). It has always been something of a “rockers” pub!
My favourite nicknames have been for the “millenium spike” on O’Connell st.
Such as: “The Stilletoe in the Ghetto”, “The Stiffy by the Liffey”.
I detect at least one candidate for the CP thread. I’ll leave it to the ladies to judge on the second candidacy.
