A personal friend of mine, nine-year-old Zoe Mace, has a CD for sale in the UK. Unfortunately, as of this writing, there is no way for people outside the UK to purchase it. I am hoping that this will change or I can figure out a way to do it myself (I’m in California).

”My sister Jodie was born in August 2000. She was born with Downs Syndrome and three holes in her heart, it was upsetting as I thought she wouldn’t get better, but she showed us how brave and strong she could be. She is a ray of light, always smiling and laughing.

I wanted to help raise money for the new hospital and asked my Mum if we could sell a disc of my singing. Everyone has been so helpful and kind and made it happen. I love the way the disc looks and sounds. I may only be nine years old, but I hope in future to be a famous opera star and continue to raise money for children. Until then I hope you enjoy this collection.

I have listened to the CD and it is first rate, rivaling most commercial CDs from accomplished recording artists. All proceeds are going to the Oxford Children’s Hospital–studio time, and all production costs are being donated.

What’s stopping it from being sold outside of the UK? Payment issues, or shipping, or export laws, or something else? Maybe the UK based chiffers can help people out here…

I don’t know. It may be that the organizers thought that overseas sales would not justify the legwork needed to set it up.

I do wish it was available outside the UK, because at the price of six pounds (around $11 US), it is a no-brainer stocking stuffer for those looking for gifts. Even if a person doesn’t care for opera, they probably know someone that would appreciate it. The cause is a good one and the music is good too. One friend of mine was wide eyed with wonder upon hearing it–it is that good.

Tanker Squadron Supports Children’s Hospital Project

Members of No 101 Squadron, RAF Brize Norton, were so impressed by the fund raising efforts of 9-year-old Zoe Mace that they invited her and her family to the base for a flight in a VC10 tanker aircraft, and to give her a donation.

Zoe, from the nearby town of Witney, is an accomplished young singer who enjoys operas. Recently she has recorded some of her favourite opera pieces on a CD. The CD has been played on BBC Radio 2, and sales are doing well, particularly after Zoe performed live on GMTV.

Her younger sister, Jodie, is receiving specialist medical treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where there is a major project to build a special children’s hospital. The children’s hospital will be a centre of excellence for treating children, and will serve Oxfordshire and central England. Proceeds from the sale of Zoe’s CD will help towards raising some of the large amount of funds required from private donation to finance this new hospital project.

Zoe and her family enjoyed the flight in the VC10, seeing Jaguar and Mirage aircraft refuelled from the tanker off the Devon coast.

Regional media, including Central TV, FOX FM radio, and the press also accompanied Zoe.
