Got mine yesterday, a tunable model. To paraphrase the message I sent Bloomfield (seemingly one of our staunchest Overton advocates), the best comparison I can make is: you drink jug wine all your life and one day, you have a taste of a fine vintage Chateau Margaux (or Opus One if you prefer). Suddenly, you go: “Now I understand what they were talking about…”
And that’s just after one day… Can’t wait to see how I feel about it after a week!

Overtons do take a little getting used to, or perhaps I should say a change in the blowing habits, from other whistles. There has been a bit of discussion about this in the past, and Wombat & I offered some tips. Of course I am not suggesting that I have got it right, but it might get you thinking about blowing that big O. The thread is here. You’ll like seeing it again, Bert, because you had just gotten on the waiting list.
I’m getting the shakes just thinking about it. I’m buying myself one when I get down to my target weight. I have 45lbs to go (I’m shooting for 185). I can’t wait!
And by the way, I exchanged some e-mails recently with Colin Goldie. He is an unbelievably nice fellow. Very responsive, and just an all-around good guy. (Sorry, I was just really impressed.)

Ok…It’s here! Pulled it out of the pouch (the Overton, that is…) and it is truly wonderful!! I figured it would be extremely hard to play since everyone said it’s not a beginner’s whistle (been playing since last Christmas). To my surprise it sounded great. I actually found it easy to play (yup, finally learned what back-pressure meant). The holes weren’t too much of a stretch at all (I’ve got big hands). I was quite pleased that the air requirements are quite less than most of my other whistles and I’m able to finish phrases that I had to take breaths in before. Now…how do I convince the wife to let me get a low-F??
