Hey Pat,
haven’t seen you in a while. Hope everything is all right. Good luck!

Thanks Bloomie,

I am fine. Just need to cover unexpected expenses and can’t justify owning too many whistles right now.

P.

The prices listed are “target” prices, in the best of worlds… I’ll consider all “reasonable” offers.
Thanks,
PT

The Overton is a great whistle. Great price.

(someone is trying to sell a tunable old-style chieftain for $200, ha.)

An OS Chieftain thats tunable?!!? Thanks for the heads-up!

That Vhieftain Tunable 'Gold" Low D you are sighting was being offered by Phil. It’s been sold as of yesterday I beleive. Why was it $200.00 for an OS.

  1. It’s a CHIEFTAIN come on!
  2. It’s a CHIEFTAIN GOLD!
  3. IT’S TUNABLE! Thats right a tunable Cghieftain Gold with a aluyminum slide I believe.

Yep it’s gone :sniffle: If the new owner wants to sell it contact me.

Anyways its the last one he had and probably one of the few he made…very rare indeedy.

So like I said if the new owner gets it…hates it…then please contact me!

I am talking about this:

And I wouldn’t pay more for a factory-machined whistle than for a hand-made whistle from an experienced maker, but perhaps that’s just me.

“Overtons are hard to adjust to, mainly because you need to support your breath, something only a few whistles require.”

I see your point…

You were doing fine until you found it necessary to needlessly bad-mouth someone else’s product.

The one being posted on the board now is an aluminum Chieftain.

Yes, great whistles. Hmmmmmh.

(This is too easy)

I think the biggest problem beginning whistle players have is not supporting their breath, especially at the end of phrases. I’ve even seen this on experienced, decent players of non-wind instruments who take up the whistle. I think this unsupported breath is often what causes people to despise tonguing in beginners, because they often not only tongue between notes, but STOP THEIR BREATH too. We all know many good players tongue often, but not one of them start and stop their breath continually getting that “toot - toot - toot” beginner sound.

Overton Low D is SOLD
Elfsong is still available.

Let me put in a plug: Elfsongs were very much in vogue on Chiff about a year ago. The sound is pure, the paint is beautiful eye candy, the heft substantial. $50 is a good price, they are $80 new for a Copper tone, and $90 new for Sassy Brass.

I tried one last year and did not find the sound to be pure at all.

Opinions differ, or maybe the Elfsong you tried was different. I polled Chiff when I was shopping. Here is a summary:

I am looking for a whistle with a pure, ethereal sound, and moderate volume. It took a good deal of research to come up with my short list. After posting the polll, I listened to the clips of Syns and Elfsongs on Clips & Snips and read a lot of the other posts about these two brands.

Poll results:
Syn 6
Elfsong 10
Gen 2
