I have been taking oxycodone for a recent oral surgery. I believe the medicine has been doing a number on my stomach. This morning especially, I feel as if I am about to vomit. My jaw hurts incredibly though, so I feel like I should take more oxycodone for that. If I do, I will probably fall asleep at work and get fired, and I will also vomit from what it does to my stomach.
Any advice?
I did a google on the med - one of the side effects is nausea.
I tend to get sick over EVERYTHING (even the epidural when I was delivering my kids). One of the things I was prescribed for nausea was phenegram. It can be taken as a suppository, if you are having trouble keeping anything on your stomach.
However, phenegram has a side effect of sleepiness - so I’m not sure it can be taken with the oxycodone. You’ll need to talk with your doctor - it’s by prescription anyway, so you’ll need to do that to get some.
In the meantime - try gingerale or ginger snap cookies (ginger is good for settling the stomach) - bland foods such as baked potato, angel food cake, etc. Sometimes cold helps, so try popsicles. If you really are having trouble - dilute Gatorade may get your electrolytes back in balance.
Did you call the surgeon? They might have a different medication you can take. Sounds like a terrible situation, so I hope they can give you something else! If your are too sleepy from a medication to work, can’t you take a sick day off? You shouldn’t have to be in pain at work.
I really can’t afford to take any more time off from work as I have already taken three days for this specific operation. Thanks for the advice guys. I am not allowed to eat solid foods, but I will go down to the store and get a ginger ale to see how that works.
Don’t forget the recognized therapeutic benefits of marijuana, especially for relieving nausea. Just make sure you have a bag of cookies near to hand … in case of emergencies.

Call the Doc’s office and tell them what is happening. Side effects like these occur frequently with narcotics. The good news is that there several others to choose from and it’s the rare person who can’t tolerate any of them. They will probably give you a new prescription without another visit.
