ouch

played so much my shoulder aches

Try using your elbows instead.

Me too…the right shoulder…but my “playing” was not while playing pipes.

Ah…come on you pervs…

It was baseball… adult fast pitch the real stuff baseball. Almost threw out a runner at home from deep Right-Center field. I believe I tore the subscapularis tendon (part of the rotator cuff). Playing pipes is OK but working a computer mouse…or anything else that requires some forward extension then internal rotation of the humerus…ouch! I think my baseball days are over. Benedict Koehler told me to give it up over a year ago…should’ve listened! He is wise in so many ways.

We aren’t getting any younger. There’s a reason why one doesn’t see many Baseball pros still playing over the age of 40.

yep. either less time or lighter reeds…

I was testing (new) reeds yesterday, played for 7 hours straight before my shoulder clued me in that it was time to stop, so I know what you mean.

Bill

7 hours, yup, that is a good bit of time to practice. Myself, I usually do not go beyond 3 or 4 at any one stretch… and of course my cruddy playing ability is reflected in this.

heh, I don’t kid myself that this was “practice”, I don’t have that kind of discipline (or schedule!) either. Testing reeds is about the closest to at-home-practice that I get nowadays

Just the kind of wailing and repeated arpeggios against a drone that are deemed unacceptable when the house is occupied  LSW[1] was out of the house…

I am with you here. However, I guess I am a lucky sot, as my wifey unit doesn’t mind when I am tuning or torturing reeds into existence.

The only repeat injury I get from playing is a sharp stich in the ribs on the bag side. I am thinking of taking up pilates to work on this area. This way, if I do it wrong, I can always blame it on pilates error.

 I will have an advantage here because, being an LSW, I have a feeling that my LSH will be very happy if I find something that will keep me quiet, even if it does wail. So I think he will then be just my “hubby unit”. If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.

I won’t comment further on this thought, except to say: “Ain’t it the truth?”
