Hello all. I was just curious to find what other music you whistlers play other than trad. irish. I myself like to play early folk music and some medieval / renaissance music as well. I’m also currently getting into some darker ambient stuff that I am composing with a droning guitar backing Anyone else?
Trad Scottish - surprise, surprise [ but more on whistle than flute ].
I like to play other ethnic folk tunes on both the whistle and the recorder. The whistle works better on the faster tunes.
There is also quite a bit of Classical melodies which work on the whistle. If there are a lot of chromatics, I’ll use the recorder, but if there are only a few extra sharps or flats, I’ll use the whistle. It’s surprising how being forced to half hole once in a while makes one somewhat better at it. 
Old time, a little blues, a bit of Bluegrass…
On whistle? Not that much… Only been playing whistle about 6 weeks. On bouzouki? Blues, rock, folk. My guitar player and I are working out an acoustic arrangement of Iron Maiden’s magnum opus “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” that has plenty of whistle room in the bridge.
Dude! Record it and put it online. I’d LOVE to hear something like that.

Maiden on the whistle? . . .too cool!!
I’m learning a Cape Breton tune. I really like that Canadian stuff.

I play more hymns and folk music than Celtic … bad me … 
I am still learning the very basics of playing the Penny Whistle and can honestly say that i enjoying every moment and look forward to playing all different types whether it be Irish, scottish, English or whatever takes my fancy but my ultimate goal is to learn how to play some Welsh songs and hymns. So if there’s anyone out there who plays traditional Welsh songs and hymns please feel free to drop me a few notes sometime lol. Have a good day everyone!
Crazy. It just occurred to me a couple of days ago that Maiden’s Run to the Hills would be great on the whistle. Now I’ll have to try it.
I think a Maiden whistle club is in the works here . . .
I don’t even play ITM. Mostly church, folks, and early rock and country.

American too, but that mostly on harmonica and mando.
Lots of church music, both hymns and contemporary. A lot of old shapenote tunes fit well on whistle, as well as some newer CCM.
Course I’ve got tendonitis right now, so it’s all harmonica for me for the time being

I play mostly traditional English. Living in NE England, I would say the greatest influence on my playing style is Northumbrian. My repertoire includes Scottish and Irish as well as English tunes but I play them in an English style.
I also play recorder, mostly early music, but the recorder groups I belong to also play arrangements of mainstream classical and 20th century popular tunes.
I also sing. Mostly traditional English and Scottish songs and modern songs written in a folk style.
