Other (i.e., correct) name for "Hawk of Ballyshannon" by O'C

I loaned my CD with this tune to a friend, and want to locate sheet music in the interim. The Tunefinder does not return results with the “Hawk of Ballyshannon” title, and I have forgotten the original Gaelic title. I am aware of it from the Narada Celtic Treasure: the Legacy of O’Carolan CD, which has both titles.

Can anyone provide the other name?

I’m pretty sure that tune is not by Carolan.

If it is not by Carolan, I am sure hard pressed to understand why it Narada put it on a compilation of his work. The liner notes–as I recall them–provided detail about the historical personage to whom the nickname applied.

Of course, this does not militate against there being another tune by the same name and by another person.

The rather long article on the tune at the Fiddler’s Companion begins, ‘HAWK OF (LOUGH EIRNE OF) BALLYSHANNON, THE (Seabhac Na h-Eirne). AKA and see “Port Atholl,” “Hawk of Lough Erne” (Seabhac na hEirne), “Miss Moore,” “O’Moore’s Fair Daughter,” “Katherine O’More.”’

and search by any one of the titles to see the rest of its interesting story. The FC doesn’t include an abc of it, but JC’s TuneFinder might under one of the other names.

I know this will sound like I’m making it up, but you can find a tune on JC’s without knowing the name. If you have the tune in your head you can take a minute to figure out whether the notes go up or down. Then type in D for down and U for up for the first few notes of the tune. It will bring up all the tunes that have that sequence. For instance, merrily we roll along would be: dduu. I don’t know what you do when it’s the same note…maybe “s”.

With respect to this tine, the liner notes for the CD, “CelticTreasure: The Legacy of Turlough O’Carolan”, state:

“The tune’s title (The Hawk of Ballyshannon) was Carolan’s moniker for Charles O’Donnell, a patron in Newport, County Mayo, whose marriage to Katherine O’More of Moyvalley, County Kildare, is toasted in this graceful melody.”

In any event, I am still looking for the sheet music, and any leads will be appreciated.
