I know, I know, I just sold one! Having found myself in a short term economic crisis, I had to sell my other flute as well. I have, right now, through the generosity of another board member, a DeKeyzer to play, but it is in rough shape and in need of more TLC than I can provide right now. So, I was hoping to find another Seery. PM me with price, condition etc. if any of you have one that you’d like to sell. If nobody has a Seery, I’d be open to an M&E Rudall as well.

I have done some work on it. Just with the winter conditions and travelling and all, I’m keeping it from leaving the house, don’t want to make it any worse!

I don’t know if that’s possible..OOps!..Oh yeah,…I did stick a Dixon whistle head on it.
Pretty much the same reason I only take my fiddle to the session, and not when I got to Boston or D.C., with my luck, something would happen to it and it’s my only one! Hmmm, maybe someone will perfect a carbon-fiber fiddle!
Now there’s an idea…I think I’ll try to flute swap for a viola though…any around ??
Say…why not cut a sleeve from one of your unused bike tubes and stretch it over the flute barrel…save you some exercise too !
hmmm, hadn’t thought of that, although the tape might actually work better, though.
The other thing I could do is leave it as is, and claim to all that it is Josie McDermott’s flute (or another of the “Geezers”) which would explain the presence of tape etc., might even have to add a few rubber bands and some putty. Speaking of that, at the session last night, the Pipers Tom were literally having parts of their pipes fall off during the session. This winter is just wreaking havoc on the woodwinds!
Leave the tape (white) on under the rubber (black) the compression will proctect it from some variation anyway…in any event it cant crack more than it is (all the way through)…if all else fails bike on down here…
I thought them pipers always played that way…
Oh…a while back I bought a “Geezer” flute on EBay (honest). AND..its really hot…tape, bad keys and all…roughly an 1850 D’Almaine. Remind me to drag it out in the winter…

oh well, keeping all the options open. I do have to say, with some superglue in the cracks, electrical tape over the barrel section, and some teflon tape on the tenons, the flute is sounding pretty good.
It’s pretty rare to see a Seery come up for sale, too.
These are good flutes; usually when folks move up to a fine wooden instrument, they will keep their polymer flute as a general “knock-around” instrument, or pass it along to someone else (friend or family) who is wanting to learn flute.

yeah, true, BUT… the Seery I had I acquired in this manner, so, figured it wouldn’t hurt to try.
Yes, a good polymer flute is useful.
I don’t believe I will ever part with my beloved M&E R&R. And because it’s polymer, I could probably take it into the grave with me and the humid soil will not even disturb the tuning, so I will be able to play it forever in the afterlife sessions as well 
.

Ahhh..I think I’ve sinned…I can’t think of what whiskey (or was it scotch or brandy ?) cork that I was supposed to replace the original head-end cover with (I don’t have one of them new-fangled M&E Rudalls with the R&R) I’m sure I could almost remember before I started samplin’…

I’ve drained a few drams the last few years but I wouldn’t call myself an expert.
I have my M&E flute here, a bottle of 15 y.o. Glenfiddich and a bottle of 12 y.o. The Glenlivet, the cork of the Glenfiddich was to big for the bore and the Glenlivet was to thin. I suppose that could be fixed, but at present, I do believe the whisky’s needs them better than the flute. 
Hmmm…Mayhaps Scotch isn’t just the right thing for a Irish (polymer) flute..
I’ve just been digging in the cork box here (an large and ancient Tibetan Ma Jong container which was once filled to the brim with gloriously decorated ivory pieces…a veritable treasure…now turned into hippie jewlery on the west coast…the shame of it all !) and turned up a couple of wine stoppers with plastic ends…both corks too big (although the Taylor California Cellars wouldn’t look too bad) and lacking that certain penasche (get out the spell checker Murphy)
Maby brandy ???..there’s a lot of classy advertising in that area

Ahh…“the beautiful hollow by the broad bay”…sure sounds right…I’ll investigate that possibility for sure !
