I was driving down the street, and of course when you do this as of late, you can’t help but notice all the political signs. There are tons of people to vote for, but on this fine day as I waited at the stop light, one sign stood out from the rest. It said “McKeegan: Recorder” What?!? Now I have to vote for a re**der? And what makes a McKeegan one better than others? And why don’t I have an option of a whistle? Hmm…something fishy seems to be going on
There is a huge one in town that says “IRELAND” on it, with a green clover because the person who is running is apparently named Ireland.
And on the way to Columbus a few weeks ago I saw one that said “Vote For Kuhn”, which in my mind is the same as “Vote For Coon”, and I could just imagine a little coon standing there holding a sign to vote for it so I laughed the whole way there. I’m weird like that, though.
Once one of my uncles was handing out ink pens, rulers, and pencils with somebody’s name on it, to vote for them for Magistrate. I looked at him and said “What does a Magistrate do?” and he couldn’t answer me.
I want to print up a bunch of stickers that say “WHY”. I could then go around to all the sings that say “Elect so and so” or Re-elect such and such" and change them with a little “WHY” at the top. I am so tired of hearing why the other candidate is so bad.
That’s true, of course, but then, by that reasoning, Banks wouldn’t practice usery if it didn’t work… advertising wouldn’t feature gratutitous sex and violence if that didn’t work,… people wouldn’t hope and work for better things if that didn’t work…
Me being the slightly evil person that I am ( ) I wanted to get a whole batch of Kerry/Edwards signs and swap them out with all the Bush/Cheney signs that surround me (all my neighbors have them…we are the exception on our street). It would have been fun to see their faces when they looked out the next morning to an elect Kerry sign. Well, at least I would have found humor in it
My daughter is 13 and she asked why all the candidates are saying how bad the other person is. Smart kid (ok, I’m prejudiced ).
On offices that I don’t have a strong preference for, I usually use this tactic - I vote for whoever I’m the least tired of hearing about - this way I figure I can stand to hear their name for the rest of their term.
Blessings on the inventor of the remote control - that way I can change channels when the policital ads come on faster than back in the old days.
Okay, this is completely irrelevant, but this discussion just reminded me:
Recently, on one of those ubiquitous house for sale signs which feature a photo of the realtor, someone covered the realtor’s face with a picture of Charles Manson. I’m sure this could be construed as completely sick, but it made me laugh at the time.
