OT: voice lessons, and forums for singers

Does anybody know of any websites and/or forums for voice? I used to belong to two forums for singers but they were mainly filled with 12 year olds saying “I want to sing like Britney Spears can you help me?” in every other post and there was virtually no real discussion. :boggle:

I’ve been wanting to sing better for a long time but attempts to find a teacher here have failed (I placed ads and called the music store, to no avail). But I’m going to stay with my aunt soon so are there any teachers near Detroit that you know of?

If I am to find lessons what should I expect?

Cran, try calling a local college or university that has a music department. Sometimes you can get a grad student to teach you, perhaps even at a reduced rate. I took voice lessons from a man who taught musical theater at a local magnet school and had been in several local theater productions. Go for it, I enjoyed taking voice lessons.

I recommend the book: Secrets of Singing Female Voice: Low & High Voice with CD (Audio), by Jeffrey Allen (available through Amazon.com).

There is a male version of that book, too. I’ve seen them on eBay before. I’ll put it on my wishlist. I have two vocal method books and cds, one by Anne Peckham and one by Seth Riggs. Problem is, I have a hard time practicing without a teacher. I think I’d do better with more structure.
