Sorry to be slightly off-topic, but maybe you can help me. On some Christy Moore recording I found the proverbial expresson “upstairs in a tent”. Can anyone tell me what that means?
Thanks
Christian
Upstairs in a tent is the name of a reel Micho Russell used to play, Mary Bergin too recorded it (she called it Micho Russle’s I think). Maybe it is not so off topic.
There are no doubt some other explanations but here’s one sounding plausible enough:
The old country farmhouses sometimes had build in beds in the small loft room under the roof upstairs. They were called tent beds in some places (they sometimes had canopies to keep the temperature bearable)
What the title implies we’ll leave to your imagination. It’s warm and cosy no doubt.

Warm and cosy, indeed. Thank you, Peter. This really makes a nice title for a tune. I think I’ll look it up at JC’s.
