Have they decided yet if the reports of the Sox all drinking before games was exaggerated or true? One player was talking about batters being “loopy,” laughing about those who you could tell weren’t experienced drinkers, etc. He tried to back off later, but he backed off so far it just sounded like he was trying to make a save. It went from all of them taking multiple shots of Jack Daniels before games (it became a good luck charm) to some sort of warm brotherly-love bonding ritual where they each took one sip of Jack Daniels out of a community paper cup before the games.

I don’t know if anyone has really decided what is true, but I think it’s pretty much forgotten about. I did not see the reports that had them “loopy” so I can’t really comment on that. I only heard the stories about the communal bonding sip, and even that has been disputed. Clearly there are some ball players on that team that wouldn’t touch a drop of alcohol before a game, if at all. You would think if they were almost drunk that it might have been picked up by others during the games. Of course, in the “olden” days, players were sometimes half in the bag going out there to play- not that I’m saying it’s ok or anything.
I think it’s becoming a non-issue.
