OT: Top 10 Sea Shanties (Chanties?) List and ABCs Please???

For a change of pace, I’d like to work on some sea chanties/shanties…dont want to go into it in a huge way, but would like to know a few to play as an aside from the irish tunes.

I dont know anything about this genre, and I guess if Im gonna learn some Id might as well learn the ones that others are likely to know…so if anyone knows, what are the “TOP 10” shantie tunes, the “SwallowTail Jig” and “Maid Behind the Bar” of shanties, if you will…?

Oh, and where can I find sheet music for them :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: ???

P.S. Has anyone other than me ever been struck by the twisted brilliance of Walt Disney, the man whose theme park ride Pirates of the Carribean made the pillage and destruction of a French coastal town and the rape of its inhabitants Family Entertainment and great fun for the kids? I guess it’s a hornpipe and not a chantey, but I like the Sailor’s Hornpipe. You know it’s intermingled with the Popeye the Sailor theme song, and the Gilligan’s Island theme song.

Sorry but I don’t have the sheet music either but maybe somebody else knows where it is, but Old Shoeboots and leggens is a great sea chantie. I hope somebody can find you some sheet music for these and good luck with your search.
