OT - Start Trek Nemesis

Fair to middling. . .I think that’s the Ressikian flute’s case in his ready room, but it never showed as a bit part.

Some good lines are in there, but way way way too predictible for me and some things that were far too awkward/unexplainable.

If you’re a die-hard, you’ll see it no matter what. If you are willing to wait, its good for rental. If you don’t want to spend your money on a so-so movie, please note it gets three starts on my 5 star scale. Not a stinker, not a standout.

at least you get to watch it now
…mumble…grumble…

Arrghh! You’ve already seen it?? I have to wait a couple of weeks till we’re safely in Arizona and the loving grandparents can watch the kids while we see “Nemesis” and (most importantly) LOTR! :frowning:

Even if Nemesis isn’t that good, I’m still excited to see it because the Next Generation cast is my favorite of all the ST incarnations.

The new Entreprise show is my favorite cast by far, but yeah, Generation is great too. I saw the movie tonight, I did like it, I guess it’s an “okay” movie.

Azalin, I couldn’t watch much of the Bakula Enterprise…should I go back and try again? It took two years before I could watch Voyager, and I never did get involved in DS9. I think I was in mourning for TNG.

I was the hugest TNG fan. I’ve seen them all at least 4 times. Now when I see them, I cringe…maybe that’s cause I’ve seen them so many times. DS9…hmmm…that reminded me more of a soap opera than most of the other Star Trek productions. I’m currently reaching my saturation point on Voyager. I haven’t seen Enterprise on purpose since it’s current time slot would make it impossible to see on a regular basis. I’ll have to wait until it hits the late night time slots.

Why am I telling you all this? I dunno. I started to type something about the new movie, but all this junk dribbled out of my fingertips. Now I can’t remember what I was going to type in the first place.

I’m going to my corner now.

Tygress,

I hated DS9, and really didnt like Voyager much, I’ve only watched these series once in a while… But Enterprise is a different thing for me, the crew is just to die for, the stories are great, and the vulcan woman is… hu, anyway, it’s just my favorite sci-fi show, and I’m far than being a Star Trek fan. I’d give it a try if I were you.

I’ll go see it–TNG was the best and even if the movie plot is so-so, these space operas look great on the big screen.
BTW-- as you may guess from my screen name, I’m a homebrewer ( if I ever get any time…). I came up with a recipe for Klingon Stout a number of years ago. Any Trek fans want to guess at the “secret” ingredient?

I’ll probably try to catch a matinee this weekend, even though I’m not a big TNG fan.
I’m with Az - I think Enterprise is the best
of the Star Treks since the original.

Paul, if I had to guess I’d say prune juice. What do I get if I’m right? (a bottle???)

Azalin, I will go back and try it again. Its on Wednesdays here, and I’m off to session then, so I’m going to have to find the repeats, and then find the first part of the season repeated.

In regard to DS9, I think Avery Brooks is a spectacular actor, but there was something about it that just irritated me. I wouldn’t mind trying it again from the start. I liked Voyager because the rules were bent, there was a sense of desperation, and characters did develop nicely over time. And I LOVED the bad guys, from the Hrogen to the Queen to species whatever, the bad guys were great. And the series wrapped nicely too.

Paul, the plot of Nemesis isn’t bad, but. . .after you see it, in PM we’ll talk about the flaws and see if we agree.

Next on my list LOTR

Oh, I was going to say prune juice.

I liked the second/thirdish seasons of DS9 but when Brooks shaved his head things started to change, lol. I was a big TNG fan, still am, but I’ve seen the eps so often that I only have to see the “pre-opening-credits” bit and I know how it all goes. Never got a chance to see much of Enterprise (erratic scheduling on local stations, and no tv now) but when I did see it I liked it.

I’ll be seeing the movie but am in no big rush.

Tyghress, Species 8472

I love TNG the best, then Voyager. I couldn’t get into Voyager for a couple of years because I was so upset TNG was over, but then I started watching it and I really love it now. I also wasn’t into DS9 till its last year but now watching the reruns I like it, too. Enterprise, however, is quite different…I don’t like it at all yet but I’m loyally watching the series in hopes that it will get better.

Enjoy, all you lucky people who get to see it this weekend!

I thought he was much better after he shaved his head. Loosened up a lot, began to really assert himself, kick some butt…

I know exactly what you mean

ENT is not bad. It certainly looks good – movie film-quality, good (expensive) sets and effects – but I wouldn’t call it the best Trek since TOS, for the simple reason that quite a few eps have recycled plots (not its fault; how many Trek eps can one have and still be completely original?). Also, I think it’s meant to be lighter and less thought-provoking than, for instance, TNG (and DS9 at times). It’s still very enjoyable, though.

Tyghress, you’re a wonder!! The secret ingredient is indeed prune juice.
For those who didn’t guess it, this comes from a STNG episode where Guinan offers Worf an old Earth drink to taste. He takes a sip, slamms the mug down on the bar and declares with great satisfaction " A warrior’s drink!". The Earth drink was prune juice, and the thought of the valiant Kilngon warrior quaffing prune juice tickled my imagination.
Although I originally meant it as a novelty, Klingon Stout actually came out very tasty. Each bottle only ends up with an ounce or so of prune juice, so the laxative effect is not a problem. The sweetness and smoothness of the prune juice rounds out the roasted malt and hop flavors and makes for an excellent stout.
Next time I brew a batch (when I’m not tearing my hair out over Pink Ivory), you are welcome to a 6 pack, Tyg!

I will definitely see this movie, most likely when it’s on cable…any Star Trek without William Shatner is a blesiing!!!

~Larry

We switched to satelite right before the end of voyager and the satelite didn’t yet have the local chanel it came on. I still don’t know how the series ended. Could someone give me a run-down?

I’ll take you up on that, Paul! and I’ll save a bottle or two for Beth who also knew.

Along the same lines, have you ever thought of brewing ‘307 Ale’? Tune and lyrics by Tom Smith…you can hear him do his thing on MP3.com

This guy is a phenomenal filker. . .(filk, not folk) who will do one song like 307 Ale that tickles one’s punny bone, then do ‘A Frog and his Boy’ that made me weep (tribute to Jim Henson).

Anyway… http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/542/542138.html

LOL! Tyghress, you can keep mine.

Bagfed, this link will hopefully cover the whole episode:

There are a lot of sites out there that have really comprehensive information on the episodes. This unfortunately isn’t the site I found last year, which was better, but it seems to be suffieient. Enjoy!

Bagfed,

go here for practically blow-by-blow accounts of almost every Voy ep. Quite funny as well.

Bagfed…where have you been??? I haven’t seen you around in ages!

I always wondered about your “From: The bottom of Lake Michigan” thing.
