(OT sorta) Pennywhistle version of "Starry Starry Night"

Hallo everyone,
I was wondering if any of you know where I might be able to find the sheet music for Don McLean’s song “Starry Starry Night” adapted for the pennywhistle. It’s a beautiful song and I’d love to learn it on the whistle!

Thanks,
Sara

You have come to the right place!

The “official” name of this song is “Vincent”, and I have it in the Hal Leonard songbook called "Acoustic Classics - 44 Songs of the 60’s and 70’s. This book may be purchased at http://www.musiciansfriend.com (no, I don’t work for them). It also contains other favorites of mine, like “You’ve Got a Friend”, “Annie’s Song”, and “Dust in the Wind”.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Slainte,
BB

That would great with just a nice low woody sounding whistle and an acoustic guitar quietly fingerpicked in the background.

Vincent was one of the first pieces of sheetmusic I bought when I was a teenager. All I have left now is the middle page, but when you’re just a rhythm guitarist you just busk along without the dots.

Bob Pegritz, whom you can find hanging out here sometimes as “Whistleworks”, put out CD last year, called “Whistleworks”. Track 10 on that CD is Vincent. So yes, it works very nicely on whistle. But you probably know the tune well enough to pick it out by ear.

You can find info about the CD at http://www.whistlinggypsy.com. IIRC correctly, the webpage mentions Bob extensive collection of Copelands (he’s a friend of Michael).

Cool! I didn’t know I had a web site

Hey,
Thanks for the info guys. Thanks for posting that link, BrassBlower.

Bloomfield,
I checked out the link you posted, that looks like a really cool CD, I listened to like the sound clips of some of the songs, and I really like it - I’m going to think about buying it!

Peace and creativity,
Sara
