OT: smallpipes D chanter fingerings

I have a D chanter with my smallpipes that I never used. Are the fingerings different for this chanter?

DJones

first of all, they are just like any other smallpipes. nothing special about d. your basic options are:

  1. GHB fingering works just fine with all smallpipe chanters.
  2. you have to experiment, but on most smallpipe chanter, straight pick up one finger at a time-flute-whistle fingering also works.they are forgiving because they are cylindrical, not conical.

most people use pipers grip on smallpipes, but the D is so small some people can’t manage it, so play it however it feels comfortable. easy does it on the reed and bag pressure. the D chanter can use alot of air.

have fun
