This was posted in Local BBoard as a cap on another post of someone who missed a recording session. I edited the one obscenity slightly. It really gave me a chuckle:
"To the Band I was supposed to Audition with last night:
Sorry dudes, I had some problems. First, I woke up at 2 in the afternoon after an all-nighter, doing LSD and crack. Then I couldn’t find my shoes, and had to scrape up change under the couch for gas money. When I got in my VW bug and headed there, I was pulled over for speeding, called the officer an #$%hole, and he arrested me, so I spend a few hours in jail. When my rich parents bailed me out, I had to stop at Denny’s and have a grand slam breakfast, cause’ I can’t jam on an empty stomach, and then stopped at the quickie mart for a six pack, because I can’t jam sober either.
At this point, I was only 5 hours late, and I figured you guys would be late too, but man, you guys were on time, and had already left. If you give me another chance it would be to your benefit, as I can really play man. Plus, I’m reliable and dedicated. I don’t hang around people that are flaky and always fall into various pratfalls like they do in English sitcoms.
Weekenders, does anyone outside the Bay Area use “cap” in that way? I thought it was only my high school!
And an oldie but a goodie: What’s the difference between a drummer [or, insert your favorite mockable-musician cliche] and a savings bond? The bond will eventually mature and earn money.
I dunno, I just grew up hearing that expression. When somebody says something silly, you “cap” on him by mocking it or just generally pick on somebody.. And I remember people saying “Stop cappin’ on me!” But yes, this was the ancient mid 60s… in Martinez, CA.
Boy, do we do that on the ol’ Forum!
Of course, they are softened by emoticons…usually… : D

Hey watch it, now you’re gettin’ personal!
Quit ‘capping’ drummers, there are a few of us ‘well behaved’ ones out there! Actually, come to think of it - I am neither mature nor earning money, oh never mind!
