OT: Posting about Posting

I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of talk in these parts about seniority, how many posts one has, whether one’s quality of posting is commensurate with the quantity, whether member x is posting post y frivolously or only to drive up his post count, whether this is to be smiled or frowned upon, and so forth.

Why the interest, or obsession? Am I prey to it or fueling it or both by posting this post? How much meaning does speech about speech have?

And a less abstract question: has anyone ever tried to make a posting coup, so to speak? What would be the reaction if some unscrupulous and ambitious member were to drive up his post count by posting posts of a phrase or two on every string, whether he was interested or not, whether he even read the string or not?

Not to point any fingers or give any ideas, of course.

Hey, don’t talk about Walden that way!

All right, I guess it isn’t reasonable to expect belief. So I’ll just admit it. I’m not talking about Walden. I’m talking about you, you and you. You know who you are. You can’t hide behind that orange monkey forever.

Michael, after a prolonged absence from this board I was astonished at the number of posts some people have accumulated, and bewildered by some peoples’ preoccupation with the number of posts they or someone else had. To my memory no one really paid attention to such insignificant things before. I guess Bob Dylan’s words still ring as true as ever…“The times they are a-changing.”

Personally, I could care less how many posts I or anyone else on the board have!

Post counts don’t matter. The only time when I notice them is if you get a new topic, with post count 1, that says: I am considering buying a whistle. Am considering a Generation, a Feadog, a Copeland, a Rose and a Coopermans. Any views on these?

Any other mention of post counts and how long you’ve been around is a joke or it’s stupid. As far as I am concerned nobody has to earn stripes here or “contribute” or jump through any hoops. I think people should just kick back, enjoy, and treat each other with respect. And most of all they should be funny.

Yeah, some people DO believe size matters

Michael, if I can stay serious for a full post about a topic nobody else takes seriously (me included), someone just noticed that you could find out everyone’s posting statistics. One set were posted. Then someone else found a way of interpreting the statistics differently. People started teasing each other—hadn’t you noticed—and the whole thing just snowballed. Now just wait for a flood of posts telling me not to take a serious matter frivolously.

If you want to see how quickly something can snowball around here, check out the philosophical discussion that followed Bloomfield’s do-it-yourself remark yesterday. Several people had commented in the brief time it took him to reach, eh … enlightenment. Now, make no mistake, that was serious.

Humor does help every once in a while, doesn’t it?

Teri,
This issue is not size … its frequency, and each has his/her preferences in those regards, several times in an hour to once in a blue moon and only on your birthday in the dark when the kids are at your mothers and the dog is asleep and … (Opps, sorry got carried away thinking about my ex.)

Any way to to everything there is a time and a season …
to …

Do

you

mean

like

this?

It’s just silliness. I don’t think anybody really takes any of this garbage seriously (and if they do, maybe they should seek professional help…)

I think humour has no place on this board.

Kindly keep it to yourselves in future, and let’s just talk about the size of our whistles.

How many times do I have to say it? It’s not about size it the frequency that it gets played, er posted er… *

*(Note to self, need to quit thinking about ex-wife or sense of humor won’t save anything)

Oh… just grin and …

“Thinking about ex”? Is that another bit of dyxxlecscia?

Did you know that there is a group like MADD, mothers against drunk driving, but aimed at dislexia. It’s called Mothers Against Dilexia, or DAM.

(Told to me by my dislexic son)
