I’m afraid I don’t know the song by the Pretenders cuz I’m a geezer. It’s nice for Ohio to be in the spotlight for a while. We haven’t received much positive publicity in the past few years. There are many Ohioans on C&F. Having been raised as an Irish-American/Canadian Catholic I have a strong tendency towards the Democratic party, although I have been an independent for the last 3 decades. Maybe some other Ohio C&Fers would like to contribute?

I don’t know that there is much to add really…quite frankly I’m surprised that Ohio went the way it did. My part of Ohio (eastern, on the banks of the Ohio River) is VERY union, and thus they were VERY Kerry. I know that we don’t necessarily reflect the viewpoint of the entire state, but watching news reports and whatnot seemed to indicate that Kerry would win the state. It seems that the media isn’t always right! I know that the people here in Steel Country aren’t going to be happy with the outcome, that’s for sure.
Really, I don’t care either way in the end. I wasn’t pleased with either candidate. I’m an Irish-American Catholic as well, although I always tended toward the Republican party in my younger days. Now I’m really just a mish mash of lots of differing things, which makes it hard to pinpoint WHERE I lie in my political philosophies.
I’m over on the South-west end of Ohio. It’s more industrial, more conservative than Eastern Ohio.
I was suprised at the Polls that I’m in a different district now. Apparently in 2002, they redrew the lines.
Coming from the part of Ohio that holds all the rest of the state up, the very tip nestled between WV & KY, the always forgotten part … … AND being stupid enough to actually work from 5:30 am - 8 pm as a precinct poll judge (where we had a Deputy Sheriff called on us for supposedly vandalizing a candidate’s ‘card-passer’s’ car – now that was a 1st!) … all I can say is God Bless John Kerry for conceding so graciously and preventing a recount, and a recount, and a recount and a …
Possibly because not everyone believes what is shown in a film made by someone who has made a fortune bashing America, while living overseas?

Utterly amazed I said “God Bless” and “John Kerry” in the same sentence. Glad my dad isn’t going to read this! (and we are both Democrats, ok? )
One imagines that a film with such a blatant agenda is generally only apt to influence people who were already heading in that direction, as it would be perceived as mere propaganda by most from the other side of the political fence who were even willing to watch it.
Because only those who were open to questioning Bush actually watched it? I know that not one of the staunch Bushies that I deal with on a regular basis (lots of them in the homeschooling community) would even consider watching it - they already “knew” that it was all lies and horrible propaganda. I’ll be they didn’t miss “Faith in the White House” though… and all eagerly watched “Stolen Honor”
we have a very large homeschooling group here too (which I am a part of) and they were also rampant “Bushies” (which I was NOT a part of). They acted as if he were the second coming or something. So no, there’s no way any of them would have watched Michael Moore’s movie (or any of his movies for that matter). He really was just preaching to the choir in the end.
