OT or not OT: Barrage in Fairfield, CT and Howard whistles

Barrage was here in Fairfield, CT last night: what an incredible show! For those not up on the group, it’s an 11-member fiddle band out of Toronto and the music is AWESOME (I’m a fiddler AND whistler). It’s a somewhat eclectic collection of world pieces: not traditional in any way. But quite the visual and aural experience.

Two pieces included whistle, so I cornered the player after the show (got every member to autograph my fiddle book), and she couldn’t say enough [good] things about Howard whistles (she played a low Howard for one of the pieces). She’s familiar with us C&Fers, so I thought I’d post this anecdotal testimonial to Howard whistles on her behalf.

Though I’ve been whsitling ovcer a year now, my primary instrument remains violin/fiddle, and I am truly inspired. Every player was personable, and thoroughly enjoyed their music (that’s what it’s all about, right?).

If Barrage is ever in your area, go see the show! They have a VHS video out, as well as DVD and a CD. All my copies are now autographed.

More important: my middle daughter, who has dabbled with whistle, plays viola, and wants to fiddle (gave her my spare violin), is even more inspired than I am–if that’s possible.

Ah well, what a night! To bad I must work today: my violin calls…
