OT: Off to Mexico.... adios!

Hey there kids. I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m off to Mexico this coming Monday (Feb 3) and I won’t be back for a long time. I’ll probably get to check in from time to time, but not often.
So, gracias y adios!
Chris

Has there been a coup? Is CL running off with his peons’ money? Is this why there has been no battle?

We’ll miss you, Chris! Make sure to send us your travel diary. You know:

_March, 7. County Jail, Talicante, Bahia._Arrested for playing my Low F in the disused train station. They frisked my backback and they took my Viceroys. Well, been meaning to quit for a long while. But how I shall get the B part of the Dublin Reel with this Salsa Caliente playing day and night, I’ll never know. Chief said he’ll hold me till the great Police Fiesta next month, and if I won’t play there, he’ll hold me foranother month. I just wish I had broght that Overton Bass Low Low A, then I am sure I could prize open these bars…

Have fun!

Thanks Bloomfield - as if I’m not already scared enough about being robbed or hassled by the authorities
Chris

Have a great time Chris! How long is your trip?

Have a great time. You know they have wonderful internet cafes in Mexico. Easy to use and cheap so no excuse not to hear from you. Fran

Thanks again
Beth - I’ll be there at least until July 30, longer if I can get a visa and figure out a way to pay for it all.
Chris

Have a great time in Mexico, Chris. Your often amazingly silly/wise threads will be badly missed here. Vaya con dios! (Hoping this is more or less correct Spanish;) )
Claus

Just remember - don’t drink the water, drink the beer instead! Oh, and you can buy pot legally too. Have fun! ;0

Chris,

Just don’t go, okay? Please?

Well, okay, if you have to, then make it a wonderful, wonderful growing and fulfilling time, and know how much we’ll all miss you here.

Carol

Rev. Chris, my Former Supreme Leader (until you referred to me as a peon), you will be sorely missed. I’ll save your place in line until you get back.
Susan

That’s a long time Chris. Vacation, or evading an indictment, or an irate bodhran player, or what?

Have fun and stay free.

Philo

Chris, have a fabulous time!! Toss back a margarita for me…but only one 'cuz I’m not really a tequila fan. Seriously though, I hope you have some fantastic experiences and get all you can out of it!

Hopefully you can check in with us through one of those internet cafes mentioned earlier, and tell us about the incredible tan you’re getting…

Safe journeys, safe return…

Andrea ~*~

Maybe you were just joking Sam, but you can’t legally buy pot in Mexico. Beer, for sure, but not weed. In fact, that sort of activity could get you in a lot of trouble in Mexico. Also, in Mexico you’re guilty until proven innocent not visa versa. I’m not trying to play the heavy, just setting the record straight.

Chris, there are tons of Internet Cafes in Mexico and their rates are very reasonable. I was in Mexico in December and the going rate where I was was 10 pesos (about $1.00)per hour. I’d imagine San Cristóbal has a ton of Internet cafes. It’s a great city, I wish I was going there. BTW, take plenty of warm clothes; it’s at a very high altitude and it gets cold at night. I’m totally serious. Have a great trip.

It’ll be just fine, Chris, but do make sure to
pay the tourist fee at a bank and have them stamp your tourist permit appropriately, as sometimes soldiers or police check papers, and its best to have things in order.Thats part #1. Part #2 requires you to have a Mexican immigration office stamp your permit as well. My feeling is they’re more concerned with having the fee paid than the immigration office stamp, but both must be done anyway-on your “blue card”. Also-A U.S.voter’s registration is no longer sufficient to get a person back into the U.S. from Mexico, with possible exception of day visits within the “border zone”. I used a cerified birth certificate two years ago, but was told more recently that a passport would be required soon, both for entry to Mexico and for return. It had the sound of an upcoming policy implementation rather than a current requirement, but I’m not current on it.

-I did witness an unpleasant exchange between a soldier checking papers in the interior and a U.S. man who had neglected to honor any of the required immigration formalities. It could have been avoided by the tourist taking even the faintest interest in Mexican regulations, but instead became a real rhubarb. Personally, I don’t argue
with someone in camo fatigues carrying
an automatic weapon.
