OT: Need tech info on 4130 chromoly steel

OK, so this is pretty darn off topic. But I know some folks around here work with a lot of materials.

I’m looking for the modulus of elasticity of 4130 chromoly steel for a school project. I can’t find it in available textbooks. I’ve looked online and found:

Modulus of Elasticity, 29,725 ksi

Can anyone confirm this for me? What’s your source? I’d feel more confident about it if it were in a book rather than on the net…

Thanks,
Beth

Hi Beth,

Yes. 29,700 ksi.

Here’s your page for mechanical properties: http://www.matweb.com .

Have great fun with it
Erik

Thanks Erik!

How typically pithycal!
C’mon, what’s the project?

The Steel Reel or Planxty Young?

It’s a recorder-proof reporting tank for the Rrrumble.

Off-Road says 29,000 ksi too…
