OT: My Millenium Post

I hadn’t even realised I was closing on the dreaded 1000 until Pixyy pointed it out to me! Thanks Pickle!

Well, I have now joined that elite and happy band of saddos and whackos who have more time on their hands than sense, or free internet access, or boring jobs, or stressful jobs that need frequent breaks, or freaky families, or whatever.

A big thank you to anyone who has ever posted to the board. You have made me smile, scry, louch, snortle and sqweep frequently.

You have been a strength to me (mostly unwittingly) through sad times and happy times, with your generous goodwill, good hearted banter, haikus, solid common sense, outrageous ranting, shining whitticisms and whining criticisms.

If I only initiated or responded to whistle and music related threads, I’d probably be hovering around the 250 post mark. For me the board really is a close, but not closed, community. We miss folks when the don’t post for a while, and we welcome them back with open arms and hearts when they return. We welcome even more heartily new arrivals, and hope they stay and enjoy the party. I have made good friends through the board, yet have still only actually met one Chiffer in the flesh.

I have learnt a lot about life, the differences between living in America and living in the UK, and a little about whistles along the way.

And an especially big thank you to Big Daddy Dale & Uncle Rich, without whose selfless and unstinting efforts to promote and preserve through the C&F board the spirit of reasonableness, a love of music, even bodhran players, we could not have met and shared this time and space.

Oh dear, there goes the neighborhood.

Congrats, Martin!

Nice speech Martin. Congratulations.

And I missed mine!

May your next thousand posts be as memorable, Mr. Milner!

Nice words and thoughts about a wonderfully zany community.
And by the way, I really enjoyed you on Adam 12!!

Perhaps if you quit posting and did more reading, you’d get through the stack of books you’ve got to read! Did you ever get to Steven Ambrose’s “Pegasus Bridge”???
If it wasn’t for the Great Rocky Mountain Session threads, I’d be back around 100 posts - as it is, I’m working hard to equal your accomplishment.
Susan

Susan, this is uncanny - I’ve just finished reading Pegasus Bridge about 3 hours ago, and watched “The Longest Day” again this evening. I only logged on tonight (from home, for a wonder) to check my e-mails.

Just Citizen Soldiers to go, and then Mr. Ambrose better write me another book to read.

Madguy - if you though Adam 12 was good, you’ll love my other famous series! Actually, Only today another person remarked on my resemblance to Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London. Stuck with a dodgy face and someone else’s name, what can go wrong next?

Pickle… Pickle!!! Nobody calls me Pickle and gets away with it! The last guy who called me… wait a minute, I don’t think anyone did that before. You get away with it Marvin

‘Seriously’ though
were it not for the fact that I read this board at work I would have been laughing out loud about many of your 1000+ posts.

cheerio,
Jeroen

Hey Jeroen,

I have the same problem - it’s like the Chapel of Rest in this office somedays, even the slight C&F caused sniggers that I try to stifle cause raised eyebrows and tuts of disapproval.

So here’s what to do. Keep a brown paper bag (plastic is dangerous) in your desk drawer, and before checking C&F, get it all ready. Then if you feel a laugh coming on, be it a gentle shoulder-shaking chuckle or a real snot-bubbler, LAUGH INTO THE BAG, and then holding the top tightly closed, take it out into the carpark and release it.

You may get some looks from innocent bystanders, but it really works.

I hope you’re not laughing at my English accent, like the peeps in the Chiffy Chatroom the other night - and I thought these Americans were so generous and kindhearted.

Laughter, unlike Arnica, really is the best medicine, and you can still get it without a prescription.

Warning: All opinions and advice expressed within to be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Congratulations Martin!

And at the same time, let me humbly bring to your attention the fact that this is my 500th post on the chiffboard. A lot more humble an occasion to be sure, but still something to be … er … proud of. I think.

Cheers,
Jens
