In case anyone is wondering why I’m posting when I should be at work! I guess I should have gotten a clue when the starter kicked in after I removed the key from the ignition! I guess my old car just isn’t handling -3 F as well as it used to. The burning smell is horrible.
It has 121,000 miles on it, young by my standards, and I love not having a car payment on it, so I guess I’ll just have to suck it up and fix it…again.

Yeah, Worcester is always colder/snowier/etc. I’m not that far away now, East Hartford.

My folks live in Windsor and when I’m out to visit, I have driven all the way up to northern Mass. for sessions before! I have a friend in East Hampton too. And if I’m not mistaken, isn’t Tyghress from Hartford as well?
To co-miserate with ya on the car troubles, I just had to replace the brakes (rotors and the lot), exhaust system (2/3rds of it anyway), the water pump, the belt tensioner, and have a head job done due to an overheat that warped the stupid engine. All told - well over $2,000.00. The car has 116,000 on it.
I could have bought a new set of pipes for all that money! ARGH!! But it runs pretty well now.

Sorry about the car troubles but remember things could always be worse. Yesterday, a van slammed into the side of my new car at an intersection as my roommate and I were going through on a green light. Said he didn’t realze he had to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left. What’s this guy doing with a license??!! Obviously he was at fault and admitted it to police. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the van driver had good insurance. He hit us so hard it spun us in the road, then we swerved side to side, nearly rolling over but somehow avoided that rather undesirable scenario. Thanks to the excellent handling of the car and the side and head airbags, we were unhurt. My car has a 5 star safety rating, which is one of the main reasons I got it, and now I know why.
At least, unlike Robin and Brian who have to shell out some hard earned cash, the van driver’s insurance will cover my car’s repairs. It’s just that from my experience, once a car sustains relatively major damage and is repaired, it’s never the same. But gotta think positive. Hopefully the repair shop will do a good job.

Wow, DRC, I hope you and your passenger are alright! Some people really shouldn’t be given a license, and I think they really need to be tougher on people who run redlights, don’t yield, etc. The same thing almost happened to me last week when some kid went blowing through a yield sign. I had to slam on the brakes and swerve into the oncoming lane to keep him from hitting my passenger side, where my three year old was sitting! If I hadn’t done that, my son would have been killed. Fortunately no one was coming in the opposite direction. The guy didn’t even slow down, in fact he sped up as we nearly intersected, and kept going. I had to pull into a parking lot and sit for a while before I could continue.
Anyways, I hope you are all ok. Needless to say, I’m still sitting here, although the car has been taken away. No word on the damages. No work for me today…maybe I should break out a whistle…

DRC, I’m glad you’re okay! A car accident is a life-changing experience. After a blowout on the freeway in '76, my vehicle rolled & threw me out the winshield. I’ve driven very differently ever since.
Mind if I ask what color your car was/is? According to insurance company stats, green cars are most frequently hit by other vehicles.

I,too, live near Worcester (in Boylston); my car has 111,000 miles on it and it died on Monday. Lost 4 quarts of oil in 12 hours. I think there is some kind of syncronicity happening here! Perhaps we should schedule a Central MA gathering? Interested? Anyone else?

Thanks everyone. Certainly not to lessen Robin’s and Brian’s plights, I just wanted to remind everyone that things can always be worse. And after reading Gary’s post about being thrown out the windshield…case in point. WOW! Now THAT’S not good!! Gary, are you ok? Unbelievable. Sorry to hear about that.
Gary, in answer to your question, it’s a black '02 Jetta TDI. I’ve always wanted a black car but now maybe I need to rethink that one. Just got back from the repair shop and the estimate is $8K!
Robin, I’m sure glad you averted a similar situation, especially with your child on board. People are nuts on the highways. Actually, I feel much safer here in Huntsville comapred to S. Florida where one can easily encounter things like this several times a day. Completely insane down there.
BTW, my roommate and I are both fine, as is the van driver. Thanks for the concern. The side & head airbags did a wonderful job of protecting us with no burns, although they did smell rather strange. The car performed admirably in this situation and I plan to write a letter of thanks to VW.

From one who responds to two or three auto accidents every shift, I very glad you are all OK! Spittin_in_the_wind I surely hope all goes as inexpensively as possible for you.
Gary, I can personally attest to the fact that GREEN cars are BAD LUCK! Most race drivers would tell you they would NOT drive a green car! Unless of course your sponsers’ product happens to be that color.
A few years ago, my wife wanted a new Grand-Prix, the one she had picked out was, you guessed it GREEN! Before we could get rid of it four years later, it had been run into 4 times!..Four times!
In order to avoid that problem with our new Monte’Carlo, it is Bright Red!!

That might be cool. I have to say, I only have been playing for about a month, so if we had a session, I’d need some help! I can play okay if I know the tune, but I don’t know too many of them.
It depends on the location too, for me, since I have kids and time commitments, and also can’t do cats. :roll:
