Hello,
I was wondering if anyone who has one of these could give me some advice on recording from a mixer at a live performance.
Thanks!
I have an MD recorder, but have never recorded off the mixing board.
You’ll need the appropriate cable, probably two RCA plugs at one end and a 3mm miniplug at the other. I don’t know what you do if the only output is a balanced XLR. You plug into your line level input on the MD, set your levels and go.
Don’t let your input go over the max level very often at all You’ll get an awful sound if you do.
Hope this helps! It’s kind of basic recording, so I hope this wasn’t so basic as to be no help…
I did that one time. We played at a fantastically noisy pub on St Patrick’s Day; I could barely hear myself play, let alone the other performers. (I’ll never do that again.) My minidisc was plugged into the mixing board. Now the mixing wasn’t working out, so I was, by far, the loudest amplified player (whether it was the mics or what, I have no idea). The minidisc recorded me way louder than the other players, naturally (my playing sounded like crap). The surprising thing was the roar in the pub was very faint on the recording. (The audience loved us, but then, they were’nt sober.)
Tony
Just a matter of input and output.

Make sure you have a collection of cables and/or adapters, if you don’t know what the output of the mixer is. At a minimum, RCA, phone and XLR.
-
Unless this is one SOB of a mixer, record in mono and get 2 hours and 40 minutes without even turning it off during breaks. You will regret using LP4.
-
Bring your AC adapter and various extension cords, unless you are sure of your batteries.
-
Make sure you use the line input, not the mic input!
-
Most mixers have several outputs. You might be able to make a recording mix that’s better than the PA output.
-
You CANNOT mix and play at the same time and do both well.

Hey. These color thingies are fun!
OK, is there a cable company that anyone would reccomend?
Also, for the phone, should i get two cables: one mono 1/4 in and one stereo?
I’ve got a Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 aimed, among other features, to record from mix table … it is a “real” portable recording studio …
It records MP3 on the fly with quality that is sometimes highe than a MD.
give it a try it is really high in quality ![]()
Cheers,
Nicolas.
So, how do you like the Jukebox 3 for recording? Is it easy to use “on the field”?
Have you had any experience recording directly from a stereo microphone, or just using the board?
Thanks,
g
Well, I want something that can play music so i can listen to it on the go. Exactly what is a ballpark price of this thing?
There was a big thread on minidisc players a while back. Lots of info, you might want to run a search.
