OT: Is this real or what?

As some of you may know, the Weekender is no longer economically viable and seeking employment in graphics arts (last job). I ran across this ad and am presenting it to you for amusement and speculation only, not to advertise (I say that in case the poster gets mad that I copied it, tho I deleted any email addresses or links).

Its a hoot. The salary is too high to be true. I swear this is a gag.

Genetic Savings & Clone Inc., a start-up biotech company, seeks a full-time Graphic Designer for our [deleted but in Marin County, Calif] office. GSC provides gene banking services to the owners of genetically exceptional dogs and cats. Soon GSC will also clone dogs and cats commercially. The applicant will:

  • Design and produce graphics for web and print

  • Design and produce Keynote (Apple’s answer to PowerPoint) presentations

  • Develop design concepts, images, prototypes and final art

  • Identify design options and issues

  • Maintain brand and identity consistency throughout all work

Requirements:

  • Strong graphics portfolio

  • 3+ years professional experience

  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator or similar, Dreamweaver or similar, Quark or similar

  • Experience with all phases of printing including paper and color specs and color proofing

  • Able to work as part of a team and independently

  • Must be proactive and able to work with limited direction

  • Excellent organizational and verbal skills

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality work

  • Grasp of fundamentals of web usability

  • Grasp of fundamentals of information architecture

  • Mac experience

  • Knowledge of HTML

  • ability to multi-task and prioritize

  • good communication skills

Bonjour Week!

Hey doesn’t sound like a bad gig to me, beyond all the controversy about cloning. The salary isn’t too bad - I wouldn’t say it’s outrageously high either. Pretty much on the nail, if you ask me.

The only thing I’d be cautious about is that it is a start-up company. I’ve had soooo much experience with those and they’re very volatile as far as longevity of existence is concerned. Unless there’ s a sugar daddy involved, then I’d consider them a short-term employer.

As for me, I don’t know if I could work for an outfit pandering to wealthy vanities…maybe Im just too fussy. i did enquire at a Persian rug place once…

Who would want to clone a cat? Isn’t that like cloning a mosquito?

Must really be ironic to those who work in animal shelters during puppy and kitten dumping season too.

I applaud your choice. I love dogs & cats, but I’m a big time shelter supporter, and I’m not a fan of cloning living or deceased animals/people. I mean, we can’t even take care of the population (both animal and human) we have now, so why make more?

Now, as for cloning flutes & whistles…

I wonder, if you would work for them, do the benefits include a free clone of your own pet? :slight_smile: and if you didnt have a pet, could they clone a whistle? I’ve got a tweaked whistle that I dont think I’ll ever find the tone of again, so could they clone that? (I swear its alive, it keeps moving around and somehow getting in my backpack when I go to school, much to the chagrin of my teachers :wink: )
