Just wanted to drop a quick line and let everyone know I’m still around but offline just now.
Last weekend my wife and I went to Dallas (and had a blast, by the way, and learned some songs in Scots and Irish Gaelic), but while we were there, a hot water line broke in our apartment, causing major damage.
Among other things that were destroyed was my Alvarez guitar. Also the old wooden flute took a soaking. I’m carefully working on it and I’m hoping it may survive–so far the signs are good but I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed.
We had renters insurance, so things aren’t as bleak as they could be, but we are in the process of moving, and it may be another week or so before I’m back online to stay.
-Very sorry to hear of both flood and your board absence, James. May your absence be short and recovery smooth.
Return as you can, the sooner the better!
About ten years ago we had a similar experience. We lived in a house with an old freestanding clawfoot bath tub. One morning, while all of us were out the cold water supply pipe popped off. My wife returned after about two hours to find water pouring out between the clapboard siding. A river was flowing down the back steps, most of the dining room ceiling was on the dining room table, there was about six inches of water in the basement. Luckily my guitar was not in the path of the water. The insurance took care of everything but the inconvenience. We now date our family history as before the flood or after the flood.
Hang in there, James. It will all dry out and maybe you will get a better guitar out of it.
