Does anyone have any experience holding house concerts? I’ve read the internet stuff, but would enjoy an email or message conversation with someone who has personal experience hosting. Private message me here in the forum if you don’t have my email and want to chat. Or, if you have comments that might be of interest to others, feel free to reply.
My first one is scheduled for Nov 10. and I’m starting to get a little excited and a little nervous.

I had a private house session a while ago, but maybe my experiences won’t be valid to your needs.
No Martin, house concerts in the US are sort of a private party with touring (usually folkie) musicians where the gate or dontation all goes to the performers.
I’ll ask a friend of mine to email you. He held a fair sized house concert for Tommy Peoples a couple of years ago. It went off great. The host is very helpful, too. Email me with your email so I can pass it along.

I’ve never hosted a house concert but this guy has.
I saw Chulrua ($12 each) his house last Spring. It was very informal. Large open room on 2nd floor overlooking a lake. Folks also brought potluck food which was shared with everyone. I didn’t sense that all the others knew each other - no “newcomer” feeling. The informal norm is that you should bring food or beer to share. We didn’t know, helped ourselves and it was not awkward. I understand he has about 500 people on his mailing list. After the band played a couple of sets, most folks left, but about 10 people hung around to play for a while. The guitar player and fiddle from Chulrua led the session. The band was spending the night there.
All in all a nice evering.
