I’m planning on honeymooning in Ireland for 10 days next August. I’m thinking of renting a cottage, or staying in a couple of B&B’s…the idea is to stay low-key and enjoy basically one region; relax, sight-see a bit, go to a session…
Any general recommendations from those who have traveled in Ireland?
Thanks,
Micah
Well, most definitely go to the West coast of Ireland. Connemara is a lovely area. There are beautiful little cottages for rent in Leenane, and Delphi (a spa) is very close to there, so you could pop in for massages and smoothies. I think there are sessions in Leenane, but Westport is not too far, and Matt Molloy’s is there! Have a great time!
I second Jessie’s suggestion. There are nice cottages at a good price and the area is beautiful. If you enjoy things a little different you will also find Gaelic spoken in the area. Cuddle in front of a nice turf fire and enjoy. BTW take a small FM radio there is plenty of music on the air.

I also enjoyed the Dingle area a great deal. Lot’s of great music and scenery.
However the Doo Lough Valley may be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.

I have found great joy through this organization:
Temple House in Sligo is wonderful, and there is some really great music in the area, GREAT site-seeing, and Deb is a spectacular chef. If you want some details, let me know!

Well, Micah, I’ve never been to Ireland, so I can’t be much help with your question. I can, however, offer my hearty congratulations on the upcoming wedding that I assume is the reason for the honeymoon!

Congratulations!
First-- I would humbly suggest that you stay as long as possible. 10 days is a very bare minimum ![]()
You’ve got some time to read up and plan. First check out the Republic’s official tourism site:
http://www.ireland.travel.ie/home/
This page lists the different kinds of accomodation:

Then call (assuming you are in the US), the New York office:

Ask them for accomodation books on the type of accomodation that you want: B&B(usually in a town), Farmhouse B&B’s(rural), or Self-Catering Accomodations, or Hotels.
Hotels are the priciest, the B&B’s are typically reasonable. , but if you are, ahem, honeymooning, you might want the Self-Catering Accomodations which are cottages and units for rent. Usually they rent by the week and are pretty reasonable and are what we might call a housekeeping unit, with kitchen etc.
I just called them and the books are available, so give them a call ![]()
