As some of you may know, I’m moving (permanently) to Israel. I’ll be travelling this Tuesday 29th and will stay in a kibbutz for the first 5 months. I don’t know where I’m going to be after that.
As far as I know, there are a few computers with internet in the kibbutz, so, I may be able to lurk the forum every now and then, but not as frequently as nowadays.
I just wanted to let you know this in case you wonder why I’m not here that much.
I worked on various moshavs (spelling?) for 5 months. It was a lot of work! I hear the kibbutzs’ have more of a party than mushovs though! One one particular farm, near Eilat, a farmer warned us not to go outside the fence for good reason - military training. Once a tractor got over that way (drunken worker no doubt) and the next day the farmer went to get it and the military had blown it up! He was so angry as this wasn’t the first time he’d lost a tractor that way! Ahh, good times. I wish you all the best. Remember when you hitchhike to point at the road - never use a thumb up (unless you’re in the market for a prostitute).
I hope your move goes smothly and everything works out as you wish. A big move like that is exciting, and I hope you will share the surprises with us as you get settled. Especially the music. Tell us what you discover about the music there.
A big blowhard Texas rancher is visiting a Kibbutz and asks one of the residents how big the place is. The kibbutznik says “Well, it starts at that hill over there, goes over to that orange grove, then back to that cluster of houses. It’s not very big”. The Texan gets all puffed up with pride and says 'Well, son, on my ranch back home, I can get in my car and drive all day in any direction and still not reach the end of my ranch". The kibbutznik nods his head and says “yeah, I had a car like that once…”
Thanks a lot everyone for your wishes! I’ve already arrived. It was a long and exhausting trip (about 20 hrs or so), but I’m finally here.
It’s VERY hot, and I’m tired, but at least I won’t have to start working and studying till next sunday, as far as I know.
I’m meeting a lot of people from all over the world (i.e. Brazil, Chile, Canada, South Africa, England, etc), and that’s great.
Okay, I just wanted to let you know that I arrived and I am OK.
Keep in touch, people!
