Last night my wife and I took our granddaughter to the St. Joe county fair.
She is 4 months short of three years old.
My wife and I could care less about county fairs but we had so much fun with her that we will probably do it again before it is all over.
She’s a verbose little tyke with no fear of anything. She rode all of the kiddie rides by herself, repeatedly and loved them all. I haven’t seen such glee since my own kids were small.
She loved seeing the animals as well.
She is also a smart girl as she refused to eat any of the elephant ear, cotten candy and fried cheese that I got for her. Guess who ended up eating them and getting nauseous on the overpowering grease and sugar? Smart kid, not so smart Grandpa.
I cannot express what a joy it was to have those moments with her. My mom always told me what fun grandchildren are and now I know for myself.
My granddaughter is 3 and a half. At the risk of sounding sappy, I have to say that she has made a significant impact on our life and has made me closer to my son than I’ve ever been. There is nothing quite like a crushing hug around the neck from a 3 year old! When we were raising our kids we were always too busy to just sit back and enjoy their insights on life. I’m not very eloquent…it’s just a lot of fun.

We, now that you mention grandchildren, here are two of my three. I guess I should try to post a picture of the other one on the web where I could put it up for occasions like this. The picture of these two was taken nearly a year ago. My son hasn’t posted any new ones since then. Claire was 4 and Adam 2. He also appears in disguise in my avatar.
