I got to Sunday session outside the Ancient Order of Hibernians in New Britain CT a little late, and was astonished to see it closed down with police tape all the way around the building!
Them that were INSIDE were forced to remain there, and them that were OUTSIDE were stuck THERE until the crime scene was secured.
It appears that Man A tried to pass a forged check, and Man B took it upon himself to sabotage Man A’s car until the police arrived. Man A took grave objection to this activity, and took a tire iron to Man B’s head, took Man B’s keys and made off with Man B’s car, seeing that his own was. . .indisposed. Exiting the parking lot (a narrow drive) Man A side-swiped the police who took a pot shot with pepper spray at the departing alleged forger.
All this happened while the folks inside were listening to the opening number of Lark in the Morning, pretty oblivious to the chaos ensuing a scant dart’s throw from their revelry.
I arrived as Man B was being driven to the hospital, and statements were being taken. A fellow musician mused after than I would have been a fair match for Man A and the tire iron if I had my low D whistle along.
Uh. . . .I don’t THINK so!
